I guess I should've been more clear: it would've been nice to know that jl_cmder isn't required to remove an IT policy. That all one needs to do is use the DOS prompt to navigate to:
c:/program files/common files/research in motion/apploader and then run: loader.exe/resettofactory A lot less hassle than Jl_cmder. |
will it take away that feature of having to enter password and it locking up. and you have to enter password to unlock it. I had a 8310 and switched to 8800. I don't like having to enter a password everytime to use my phone. Like the way my 8310 worked. I gave it away. Will be able to ungrade soon. Till then I want to get rid of this feature.
|
Yes, if your 8800 has an IT policy, once you remove it, that feature will be disabled.
|
hello all,
I have an unlocked 8100 from TMobile, and it has some IT policy that does not allow me to access internet using custom service book n GPRS. I tried this policy.bin method..did not work though.. pls can anyone help? |
Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)
First off, you shouldn't be using the policy.bin on an 8100. Remove the policy.bin from your computer by reversing the steps used to install it. Then upgrade the OS on the 8100 to 4.5 and use "Method 1" above. Second, I have no idea what your talking about "custom service book in GPRS." Do you have a BB data plan? |
Quote:
In the wipe method, as soon as i restore my backup, the IT policy comes back again. Any suggestions pls? I am running stable os version 4.5. custom service books using GPRS means i dont have data plan for blackberry, but i use the generic data plan from provider to access internet from my handheld. |
Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)
That's likely because you have the policy.bin on your computer. As I stated above, remove the policy.bin you installed using Method 2 from the computer by deleting it from the folder where its stored. If the policy.bin is left in place then ANY BB connected will get that policy applied. |

I have another type of issue with my blackberry 8900 and I need help. I had a 8310 curve that I bought off ebay and had to install the blank IT policy on. I just bought a new 8900 from T-Mobile; unistalled my desktop manager, policy.bin file, and all backup and restore files from my computer. I reinstalled the blackberry desktop manager using the disk that came with the new 8900, went to sync my contacts with MS Outlook and noticed, an IT policy was placed on my new device.
I searched my entire C:/ drive for anything resembling an IT policy and I can't find anything. I wiped the device again (device showed no sign of IT policy), unistalled DM then reinstalled and the same thing happen. What am I missing??? Please help |
Delete the policy.bin file from your PC.
Backup your data. Then I would download and install JL_Cmder and run the RestoreToFactory options. Once you've done that restore your data. |

The 8310 I had was from ebay, it had an IT policy on it and the seller didn't know how to get it off. I couldn't wipe it so installed the blank. Now the blank is hiding somewhere on my pc and it's driving me nuts |
search the PC for *.bin and see if you find it.

Error running JL_CMDER
Been having issue removing IT policy from my BB till came across this article. Thought this is the last step to be executed (JL_CMDER) but unfortunately ran into problem. Getting this message when running the resettofactory option:
'JAVALOADER' is not recognized as internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Help please... |

Message 507
hey guys, i just try to wipe out a it policy and after that appears a message 507, i think its blank, how i can reload the os to the Blackberry?
|
Welcome to the forums.
Follow these steps : http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.p..._BlackBerry%3F You selected the wrong option. You need to select ResetToFactory, not Wipe Handheld. You will most likely still have the IT policy on the device when you reload the OS. |
Alternative: Using Apploader to remove IT Policy
You have IT Policy and Firewall is enabled and shows a red lock. You want to remove this firewall lock.
1. Make sure you have Desktop manager installed 4.X or higher, latest is 5.0 2. Backup BB and save .ipd backup to restore it back at end 3. Connect BB device using USB. 4. In Windows, go to Start>Run>type "CMD"> dos window opens 5. type CD\ which will bring you back to the C:\ 6. Code:
type CD "program files\common files\research in motion\apploader" Click on Backup and Restore >Restore >then choose .ipd Backup file then click open. 8. When the data restores disconnect the device On the device go to Manage Connections and turn on the Mobile Network Service books may need to be resent to the device for email functionality. Good Luck |
you can also contact your carrier and they can connect you with blackberry tech support and what they do is connect to your computer and walk you through the setup to remove the IT policy . I actually did that today and now my IT policy and firewall is disabled
|
I downloaded and installed app and when I started it the Dos window started up and then disappeared as if the application closed?
|
I have the same problem. I am using 64 bit Vista and the application seems to load for a quick second and then is gone. Please help!
|
Wow, thanks so much for posting this. I've been dying with my IT policy for a loooong time. Finally no more passwords!!!!
I'll be sure to pass this on to the IT department at work. They could use the help. |

The black box with white text popped up that said, "Hit any key to continue". It prompted me "do you use a password?" and I selected yes. I was prompted to put in my phone pw. From there I got the options to wipe, reset to factory, etc. I reset to factory and viola! I restored my phone via blackberry desktop software. Done. |
507 error -- pc wont detect bb
hi,
my attempt to update my 8310 software and remove an IT policy has made the bb undetected by my pc and i cant seem to proceed with anything now. i tried installing the os update without deleting the vendor file. it failed to update 2 times and gave me the 507 error. i tried it a third time and it gave me the 507 error again but also now when i connect it to my computer is it not detected at all by the computer or bb manager. please help! thanks |
|
ok, i tried those instructions a few times and i could not get "USB:UNKNOWN" to appear from the drop down menu of the loader wizard application. any other suggestions?
thanks |
It may take multiple attempts before it connects.
I would reboot your PC and try again. Also, make sure you're connected to a rear USB port on your PC and not a USB hub. |
i still am not able to connect via those instructions. i have tried many times now and am connected direct to my laptop via usb. any more help is appreciated greatly!
thanks |
ok, i got it fixed. left it plugged in/charging for a couple hours and then connected it the the computer and it worked fine. thanks.
|
okay, i need to remove the IT POLICY : DEFAULT which is trolling me since i might have installed aim the wrong way.
but after downloading the 300mb desktop manager, which was an horror to get it working with xp's new installer service, well that desktop manager 5.x downloaded from BB cant even recognise the device, and asks for it. so no backup , which is annoying. anyone have a better plan to ...just get rid of that policy? (yes, ebay. ) |

What model device? Method 1 should work for most all devices except the real old ones. |

Your OS is obsolete. Install OS 4.5 and then use method 1 as described. Method 1 won't work until you install OS 4.5 or higher. |
Worked Great as mentioned in the first post for two of my BB 8310
Guys this is a great tool & it worked for two of my old BB 8310's & i am able to remove the IT policy installed by our BES Admin & now i am able to use the device without any password.

Blank IT Password
My wife recently purchased an 8800 from a business that was upgrading their phones. We were given instructions using the second method and everything seemed to work fine until we tried to access the phone once it "locked" itself. The password we were given doesn't work, nor does the one we were asked to create when we reconfigured the IT policy. Any idea how we can access the phone now that we are locked out?
|
Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)
If you type the password 10 times incorrectly it will wipe the device and you can start over. |
When doing method 1 my phone still says "emergency calls only" when I try to make an outbound call but when I try method 2 I can start making calls and my phone works perfectly, that is until I have to reset it (take battery out) for whatever reason then it goes back to "emergency calls only" what am I missing?? help please!
PS everything else works, mms, texts, browser, BB messenger, emails, incoming calls, google maps, except outgoing calls. |
thank you thank you thank you
The only thing I might add is after you do all the steps and the phone still is asking for a password on the reset go ahead and put in new password, then go to the security setting and use the newly found disable option (that is missing when the IT software is on phone) I spent more time then needed working through the steps twice because I didn't think it worked the first time. I appreciate your explicit and informative instructions, I thought I was going to have to send the phone back because I just couldn't live with the password issue. Love my 7130 and was thrilled to get a used one in great shape (except the whole IT thing) thanks again.
|
So I backed everything up, used JL_Commander to reset to factory, then restored from backup. IT Policy was still there (came back through the restore process?). So then I selectively backed up each item I really wanted (contacts, calendar, etc) and left off the Policy item. I also downloaded the blank Policy.bin file for good measure. So after I restored this time, the first screen says "blank policy created by John Clark" so I thought I was good. But then the security options still has a little lock next to the Password Enabled open and I can't disable it. I can now pick a 60 minute timeout which was not an option with my former employer's IT Policy. But maybe something is getting restored that keeps a bit of policy in place? Not sure where to head next. Suggestions?
|
Do NOT use the blank policy.bin file when using resettofactory. If you have installed the policy.bin file to your pc it will be installed to the BB each time you connect to Desktop Manager. Remove it from your PC by doing the reverse of the steps outlined. Then do another resettofactory.
Blank policy.bin should ONLY be used on devices that cannot be upgraded to OS 4.5 or higher. This is stated right in the instructions. |
Wirelessly posted
I'll undo the bin file. I saw that in the instructions, but after factory reset, once I restored from backup, everything (including the policy) was restored. How do you restore from backup without the policy coming back? |
The only way the policy will return is if you have the policy.bin on the computer or if your computer and DM is connected to a BES account.
|
So I removed the policy.bin file and path. I went to Backup/Restore/Advanced Options and "cleared" the policy entry from the handheld. Not sure if that actually does anything. It actually didn't. Am I going to have to factory_reset and then restore again? But there must be something that is still hooking me to BES. All the Desktop Service books were deleted. Are there other service books that connect it to BES? And isn't the Policy backed up as part of the backup/restore process? I'm assuming that's why it was restored back after I did a restore.
|
Thank you very much for this informantion! I recently took the jump to getting a (verizon) 8330 curve. I followed the sites ebay buyer tips and got a great BB for a GREAT price. The only downfall was a locked firewall and slacker and a few other apps wouldnt work. (very frustrating) I followed your guide here and now I know why they are called crackberrys.
thanks again, Charlie aka CSA |
I have the new Bold9700 and the IT Policy disables the camera, does anyone know of third party software for the camera that I might be able to use?
Or a way to override just the camera settings? but still be able to use the BES? Thanks |

I have been reading and doing my best to find a solution so that I don't need to post but unfortunately everything i have tried hasn't solved my problem.
I have a BB 8900 V4.6 and I cant connect to DM or the PC through the usb in order to remove this IT Policy. I did however connect through Bluetooth to the PC but not DM. I also tried JL Cmder to no avail, wouldn't detect that either (unable to open port). I'm connected through the usb port not hub. I'm using a mac however I'm running XP. But that isn't the problem either, I used a laptop just in case it was the mac at fault, that didn't help either. Wireless bypass and Desktop connectivity are greyed out, and the IT policy has rendered the phone useless. This is not a company phone and I did download DM and installed it without the BES option. Tried to wipe handheld with BB but that didnt change anything. I dont have anything on the blackberry so i dont need to back it up with DM. So if theres another way to wipe it/reset it without DM that might be useful. Thanks in advance. |
JL_Cmder is the only way to remove the policy. Are you sure you don't have a bad cable?
|
That is possible. Would the phone charge even if the cable was faulty? I just got the cable, a generic micro usb. And it only charges.
|
Depends on where the cable came from. There are cables that only charge. Do you have the one that came with the device?
|
Maybe thats it. Actually you are most likely right. Thats embarrassing, I will get a hold of one from BB to use. Glad I posted, thanks.

Hey
I am a complete newb, got my 1st blackberry an 8310, with a pre-existing BES! It also has an active IT policy. I downlaoded desktop manager v.5.01 and also updated my Os to a 4.5! I was following method 1 of JL_Cmder to get rid of the IT policy but i dunno where I have to run the JL_Cmder after i update my OS and close the Desktop Manager! Any help will be much appreciated |

Options >About. On the third line down. Starts with a v If you have a 9630 then you have OS 4.7 or 5.0 and you can use the instructions in the first post, Method 1. |
IT Policy - unable to remove lock
I have followed the instructions for Method 1 but still unable to remove the padlock. Does someone have the "policy.bin" file so that I can try Method 2, or any alternate suggestions?
Thanks |
Which padlock are you talking about? On which setting?
What OS do you have on your 8830? |
If you still have the padlock then you are doing something wrong. Either you do not have OS 4.5 on the 8830, in which case you need to update the device and then try again, or you are connected to a BES.
|
As JC said, if you're still on the BES they'll just push the policy back onto your device after you remove it. It's been said many times but is worth repeating: messing with an IT Policy while on BES is usually grounds for immediate termination.

how to remove it policy
Forgive my stupidity..bought my son an unlocked 8700 but I can t load Facebook or thrid party software says IT Policy...
My understanding is this 1. BAck up blackberry to Desktop Manager 2. download Java Commander 3. Once it is on my computer how do I apply it to the blackberry to do the reset? I'm missing something here. or am I supposed to download it directly to the Blackberry and not on the computer? Thanks |
First make sure the 8700 is running 4.5 (Options > About).
If so, here is how to connect:How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ Instead of selecting the Wipe Handheld option, select Reset to Factory |
removed it policy browser doesn't work
Hi..I followed Option 1 to remove IT policy, backed up data before, then restored data...Now brwser won't work says device needs browser configuaration service book entries contact service provider...contacted Fido and they said they won't support an unlocked phone...How do I get my browser working again?
Thanks |
You need your service book.
Try going to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Menu Key > Register Now. If you did a backup, you could try doing an advanced restore of your service book database. |
service book
they provided me with the following:general wap settings: APN:wap.fido.ca IP address 205.151.011.011 WAP Home page://fido.mobi username: fido, password: fido
Does this help me? If so, what do I do with this? How do I input this into my phone? Thanks |
HI
I have a 7290 with v4.1 installed... I was try to use method 2 to remove the IT policy so that I can set the phone to not use any passwords... Well it looks like it worked half way... I have more option that I had before... It no longuer syas that there a Policy in action But i still can`t set the password to disabled.... I can change the psw to something else... but just no having no password... Tried to do a Data wipe... did not solve the problem.... Edit: I fixed the issue... I took my time to readd all the posts in this thread... and I found out what I was doing wrong... I actualy copied the code on page 1 in a txt file and renamed it Policy.bin... d`ho! I then realised that I needed the ITPolicy tool and the code on page 1 in a policy.inf to generate the policy.bin file |

Thanks for your input. The upgrade to 4.5 did work, so I will go back to my old company and make sure they removed me from their BES policy. They let me keep the BB when I left but may have not removed me from their policies, which wouldn't surprise me.

Option 1 works very well
I wiped a 8320 and reloaded OS. I continued with IT Policy. I downloaded JL_Cmder and followed Option 1 for resettofactory. After reset to factory completed, IT policy was gone and so was password. I did not have to restore from the backup I made.
Thanks! |
Help me get my email
I have a new Storm running v5 that had been configured for a BES connection, but never used.
I have tried both versions of method 1 and downloaded a new version of the OS, but still cannot see the option to configure general email - I only get the second option to connect to BES. There are no visible policies. The phone was originally Verizon, but is unlocked and everything else seems to work OK, just no email & no browser, even after the reload Can you offer any suggestions? Do you have a BB data plan with your wireless service provider? Once that data plan is provisioned properly on your account you should get a "Setup email" icon under Settings. |

You MUST have a BB data plan in order to get a browser and/or email on a BB. As for voicemail, set your voicemail number by pressing the green phone button, hit menu key and select Options >Voicemail. After entering your number there and saving, reboot the device by removing the battery. |
Does anyone have a blank policy.bin file for me please, just received an old 7290 that I need to clear of its policy and the latest os is 4.1 for it so cant do a method 1.

IT policy removed
Hello there, just wanted to thank John Clarke for his precise details regarding the IT policy, I managed to do it myself who does not know anything in IT, thank you everso much.
|
hi every buddy plz what is
(( research in motion ltd. )) this bb has blank it bolicy on it written by john clark i want to know what is this messege mean thank you verry much your brother morgan |
Research in Motion (RIM) is the name of the company that makes the BlackBerry.
That message means that someone installed a blank IT policy to your device written by me that I wrote several years ago to remove IT policy restrictions placed on devices by corporations. On older devices there was no means of removing an IT policy and the only way to get rid of the restrictions was to place another IT policy on the device with all the restrictions open. This is what "Method 2" describes above. However, on all newer devices with OS 4.5 and higher it is now possible to remove the policy as stated in the first post under "Method 1." I no longer have the blank policy posted for download as it's rarely necessary anymore and many people use that method when they don't need to. The text of the IT policy written by me is posted in the first post so that anyone wanting to know what it included can see it. You can remove that message by changing the info in the "Owner" section in Options. Hope this helps. |
reseting it policy
did it using cmd. god bless you.

Now the phone works, but the internet and e-mail don't work. the icons do not appear and when i check Host Routing Table, nothing is there!! uGHHH...lol, i feel like i've just switched abilities from no phone, but e-mail and texting to A PHONE with no e-mail and texting. help would be appreciated! thanks! |

Still no system for Macs?
Hi! and thanks so much for this ongoing conversation, and all your generous help.
I noted in the older comments that JL-cmder is a Windows-only option. Has anything changed in the last three years? Is there some way for me to wipe the IT policy using BB desktop on my Mac? Or is there some other Mac method besides JL-cmder? BTW, I'm a computer idiot, so speak slowly and use tiny words. If something seems too obvious to include - please include it! I'll try to keep up. |
I have an unlocked BB, if I follow this procedure, will it become locked again?
Thank you |
Nope. You can never relock it.
