Pushing an App to the home screen rather than downloads folder

hi guys,

Is there a way to control where to place a blackberry application on a users' phone? We are currently trying to encourage users to use an app that we have recently required. Because it appears initially in the download folder, nobody ever uses it.

Thanks for your help

J

I believe that beginning with OS 6 devices you can set the default download location to the home screen, but it's on a device-by-device basis. Downloads will go wherever the individual device is set to put them. It's not configurable from the admin side.

In 6.0, the user can chose where their downloads land. Options>Display> Home Screen Preferences. You should see an option called "Download Folder" with a drop down menu of options, including "Home".

thanks rambo47 for confirming. Most of our devices are on OS 4 so I guess we just have to educate our users on how to move the icon. We are looking at controlling from the admin side.

Is it possible for a user to click on an link via an email on their device which could then trigger a "macro like" feature to move the icon? I am clutching at straws here, I doubt this can happen at all but want to put it out there.

I don't know about emailing a macro, but my suspicion is that BlackBerrys, with their penchant for security, will not allow this.
