Blackberry DR solution

Hi everyone, I am new here, and I did search the forums for DR solutions and basically got this idea, and would like to fly it by your expert opinions.

I would have a primary BES, and a DR BES, I would place the DB files on a SAN, and then let the Primary use that, install the DR BES, use the same name as the primary BES server, and point to the DB files on the SAN. I would also stop the blackberry service on the DR BES, and just start that whenever the primary failed.

Would that be okay?

You got it, just make sure to set the services on the DR BES to manual startup. Just incase the DR BES gets rebooted you don't want the services starting on their own.

Other then that you got it down.

What is your plan if SAN is unavailable? Is the SAN remote from the other systems?

Does this require another BES license?

No, not if you're using the same SRP and CALs on the the second BES.

Change of plan...

There is no SAN yet, and wont be for a while.

What other way is there?

I will only have 2 BES servers now, 1 primary and one DR.

They would also be in a separate namespace.

Is it Exchange, Domino or Groupwise? It's a relevant question because BES for Domino uses Domino databases on the BES server ("state databases") which would need to be replicated in case of failover.

It is an Exchange 2003 server.
