Help for Downloading OS

I got my first BB just this December and I'm very amaze with it. That is why I would like to try some few things that can enhance my BB. I got a Storm 2 9520 and I have a few questions:

1. I do not have BB Desktop Manager in my PC. Can I still download the updated OS and enter it to my device even without the Desktop Manger?

2. Can I download the updated OS directly to my device through the Browser?

3. My current OS is V5.0.0.202. Can I directly enter the latest version to my device even without downloading the subsequent version?

I hope someone can help me with these issues. Thank you very much!

1, No you need you the app loader in DM. You could also use BBSAK (BB Swiss Army Knife) but that must be on the BB also.

2. No.

3. No.

BBSAK?? Lol

Another question, how should I know if the version of my OS is:
1. Multi-lingual or english or east asian, etc.
2. no DRM/DRM

Re: Help for Downloading OS

BBSAK is a program. I use it to upload OS

When you download OS, it state All Language or East Asian version. You can't check after it's install on device.

What is DRM?

Yes, you can. When you install the operating system file to your PC, the loader.exe is installed which you need to upgrade the device.

2. Can I download the updated OS directly to my device through the Browser?
No, not through your browser, but if your service provider has the upgraded OS released, you may be prompted for a Wireless Update, but I would not do it this way.

3. My current OS is V5.0.0.202. Can I directly enter the latest version to my device even without downloading the subsequent version?
Yes, you can. You can skip over an OS release, and use the most latest recent version.

You will find the two latest OS releases for the 9520 at the top of this Storm section, follow those directions in that post for upgrading.

1. You decide what language you need on the device, and choose the OS released accordingly, or you can load the language module you need afterward. All OS releases include English. Multilanguage most European languages. East Asian includes just what it states, and one labeled EMEA will include most European, Middle Eastern and African languages.

2. Who is the 9520 branded to? What service provider flash screen pops up on reboot?
Or, do this, at the homescreen of the 9520, press and hold the ESCAPE key just left of the red END CALL key. While holding it down, press and click the TOP LEFT corner of the screen, then the TOP RIGHT, again the TOP LEFT and then the TOP RIGHT, all quickly in succession, you will be shown the HelpMe! screen, and who is the Vendor ID on the top line?

BBSAK is only needed if he wants to completeley wipe his device. However, apploader doe that automatically before it install an OS so he can skip the BBSAK step.

Here is how to upgrade your Storm 9520 buddy

Download the Operating System (5.0.0.1024) from the below link:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...94A38DDE73F95E

Make sure you create a backup before you perform the below!

Instructions For Installation:

1) Install the *.exe file you just downloaded.

2) Navigate to Computer >>> C: >>> Program Files >>> Common Files >>> Research in Motion >>> Apploader

3) Delete the file named vendor.xml

4) Connect your BlackBerry through the USB port

5) Run loader.exe

6) Follow the on-screen instructions and enjoy.

The user needs to know if he has a DRM or noDRM device before upgrading, or just take his chances and find out when he begins the process. The file you directed him to is a "9520_omanodrm" release, if he has a DRM device, the OS won't install.

I don't know if I got it right because there is no "HelpMe!" word here. Instead, I got into the "Engineering Screen Contents" that gave me seven option to choose from.

I think DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I still don't know how to do that because I still can't get the HelpMe! screen. But everytime I do the reboot, the logo of Blackberry appear in the flash screen pops up.
