Sprint/Nextel Blackberries
Any ideas on when nextel or sprint might come out with a new blackberry. I am thinking of switching to blackberry but dont want to buy a older model then a new one come out soon. I am leaning towards sprint cause they have EVDO (seems to be available in my area) which seems to be faster for people than nextel's network. Nextel has there 7100 series on sale right now so I figure they might be coming out with a new blackberry soon. I did a search both on here and the web but found limited information.
Thanks |
Sprint-Nextel should be coming out with their 7130i in the next couple of weeks.
|
Thanks I will wait till then to upgrade.
|
nextel should also be releasing an 87xx series phone sometime around september.
|
Im leaning more towards Sprint just for the fact its a faster network. Since im new to all this I figured I would wait till so new models come out.

But when will that happen. I actually like both companies the same. I am currently with nextel but sprint with evdo is way better than nextels network. Direct connect is the one thing I will miss some.

The September release isn't really something I'd wait for if I were looking to purchase a device now. I believe the 7520 is exempt from the upgrade policy (though did Sprint Nextel just change it?) so I'd go ahead with the purchase now.
EV-DO is much faster than iDEN. The networks will not be the same for several years, and by then a 4G network may be launched. Constant evolution. Whichever side has better coverage in your area should be first consideration. Second should be do you need the chirp. If not and CDMA coverage is good, then by all means, go with the Sprint side. |
Does anyone know what the Blackberry 7130i looks like? I feel like the models in the 7130 series all can look completely different.
Thanks |
The device is the 7130e. Looks the same as Verizon's.

Oh my god, another thread on sprintberry's |
whoa whoa..... are you sure that the new 7130 is going to be an I model?
does anyone know if its confirmed to be on nextel? is there any EV-DO compatible smart phones on sprint? |
The 7130 will not be an iden model but a Sprint CDMA version. Iden will not release a new blackberry for months and it will be an 87xx version.
|
Im going to hold out till the 28th and see what the 7130 looks like with sprint. I will check out both models and go from there. The only problem I have with sprint is they are still very new to blackberry. I have called a few times just to get some information and its a hassel trying to get someone that knows anything about blackberries. Nextel is definitly alot easier when it comes to help.
Thanks for your guys help. |
Does anyone know if this will be an EV-DO model? That would help me out
|
Dont see why it would not be. But I really dont know
|
I'm sure the 7130 on Sprint will be the same as the 7130 on VZW.
Sprint is not new to BBs; BBs are sold only on the business side. |

Agreed. You just have to get past the lower level dummies to get to the blackberry tech folks. There is a specific number to get straight to blackberry service, but I can't find it right now. As far as the new device goes, I'm disappointed they're going with the 7100 series first, but I guess that is the order most other carriers have gone. Has anything come out of WES about any of these new devices? I've been following it on several sites and it looks like the whole "multimedia" thing is the only thing discussed so far. |
Will Sprint/Nextel let you change from one provider to the other. Nextel to Sprint or the opposite. and keep phone number and email intacted.
|
I was told you can switch without paying the fee to cancel the contract. Phone number will stay the same.
