Wireless Calendar, Contacts & Tasks Sync

As you know the Treo 700W and other Windows Mobile 5 devices have the ability to wirelessly sync the Contacts, Tasks & Calendar folders with Exchange Server 2003. Does anyone out there know if Blackberry will every offer this functionality for their devices without having to purchase the expensive BES server?

Sure it is expensive but lots of small business (like mine) already have Exchange server running with Small Business Server, that investment has already been made. I love the Blackberry but need the Calendar, Tasks & Contact sync capability. So my choices are:

1. Get Blackberries & BES server - this requires server software and additional server.

or

2. Get Treo 700W which does what I need without an additional server.

Got any constructive input murpheous?

Your point is valid I think about the BES... not so much the price (which it is high as you add users) but for smaller companies that have already paid for exchange (mucha $$) and enjoy those benefits but don't want to sink anymore dough into the mail system. RIM has three mail technologies or devlivery means, but only BES allows for syncing with outlook wirelessly. I would hope someone is looking in R&D as to how to at least get the redirector to work with the desktop manager and keep the calendar up to date. Seems to me it would not be impossible.

What is the actual technology that serves the Treo for this? Is it the Outlook web in exchange 2k3 or somthing else. Trying to figure out what the treo is connecting too to get the sync accomplished? Also is it via internet (wap or mobile cell type) or is it WiFI.

It is a new feature provided by Exchange Server 2003 with Service Pack 2. This feature works with Mobile 5 devices. Later this year another update will be released for Exchange Server that will provide BES like features like remote handheld erase for stolen phones etc. There are no intermediary servers (as far as I understand it), if you have and Exchange 2003 Server & a Windows Mobile 5 phone you're able to sync wireless over your cell network's data plan.
