OS: 8520 4.6.1.473/4.6.1.320 (Multilanguage)

Software For BlackBerry® Curve(TM) 8520 Smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.1.473 (Multilanguage)

You can install to any carrier's 8520 model device by following the directions below.

Package Version: 4.6.1.473
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.6.1.320
  • Software Platform: 4.2.0.137
  • File name: 8520wifiM_PBr4.6.1_rel473_PL4.2.0.137_A4.6.1.320_F ido.exe
  • File size: 117.8MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.
Download the software here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...EB20931645FA40

Instructions to install, regardless of carrier.

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Looks like Fido re-released this OS...

Noodle22 02-24-2010 06:37 PM

I tried upgrading to this one today, after double clicking on the loader.exe file it goes through the set up process, and then when it get's to the part where it loads the OS it just says it's done.

This doesn't look like the same issue John Clark posted about as I'm not using BlackBerry DTM for this process, just the loader.

Has anyone seen this before?

I thought someone said a 4.6 was available right out of the box... Need I open my own thread?

Look at the OS in my profile, that is the one that it comes with. It is 4.6 as well. But there are variations in different OS's

cartiel 02-28-2010 02:39 AM

ok I believe you

I just wanted to be sure. Is there a problem with the 5.0 operating system? I been hearing some bad feed back. Is that when you upgrade from your original OS or is it with a 5.0 operating system all together? If I go for a 8530 will I be expected to to downgrade to a 4.6 os?

Wirelessly posted (8520 (5.0.0.411))

OS 5.0 for the 8530 works fine, that's why it's been officially released by RIM and the Carriers so you will be fine using that OS. The reason the 8520 doesn't have an official release of 5.0 yet is because there are still bugs and quirks that need to be ironed out before the official release.

I'm getting a AT&T 8520 today, should I upgrade to this OS or get 5.0?
