Will QNX replace BB OS6?

Now that RIM has purchased QNX and will be developing a tablet on QNX I have to wonder about the future of the BB OS. QNX is an extremely well-written OS that's small, secure, real-time and fast. Will RIM choose to develop two operation systems or will they eventually move everything to QNX?

From what I have read I believe that QNX is the direction RIM is headed toward

I highly doubt that they WON'T move everything to QNX. I just hope they've halted as much workforce as possible towards supporting OS6 and gone full steam ahead with QNX. The sooner RIM converts everything to a more diverse operating system like QNX, the happier their shareholders will be in the near future.

They need to move fast in my opinion before they lose more market share to Apple and now even Microsoft with the new Windows Mobile 7 operating system.

BlackBerry 6 will continue to be invested in and supported; you're all forgetting about BES environments and that BB6 works well with both Touch and keyboard platforms. QNX is still being developed, and RIM will test the waters with Playbook first. 2nd half of 2011 then we'll see leaks of it on a future BB.

To be honest I would've liked to see 2 completely separate platforms from RIM. BB based and QNX - both fitting well into a corporate environment since QNX is so FRESH!

investors do not control what consumers purchase, maybe corporate but still not directly - if they control the direction of a company then that company won't last too well - this has been proven multiple times in the past.

QNX is an RTOS that has been out since 1982. As an RTOS, it is far from fresh.

Fresh ... used as a slang word in my use above. As in REALLY sweet/cool/rad/janu! ;)

TO me, it does not matter but I would say this:
A switch to QNX will be a smart idea for RIM in the long run because it is a posix based platform and for the people who are experts on semaphores and threaded / parallel processing QNX will respond well with the growing needs for more juice on the processors.

Also RIM should very damn hard to make sure that they do not compromise the core functionality of the BB OS so that users have not or minimum learning curve.

One thing I believe is that the RIM should not tailor its OS as par with Android or Microsoft 7 or something... Because RIM serves a very serious clientele and any drastic change could de-rail the mission.

Wish all the best to RIM and hope it will listen to its customers and the newcomers as well.
