Sequence of Events in Exchange 2010

We are pretty far along with Exchange 2010 with CAS hubs, updated Mapi.dll, etc. No problems so far.

We will be starting to move mailboxes and the question is..do we move the BESADMIN mailbox first before we move any more over. That should not affect anyone on the Exchange 2007 Server. They should keep running with no issues(hopefully correct).

Throttling policy. We are down to 95 users (from 160 sad to say). Should be implement the throttling policy before we move the besadmin mailbox or after we move the besadmin mailbox. With 95 users will it make a difference.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

We moved the BESadmin account first when we were in a similar position. But test both scenarios ie users on Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010. We were coming from Exchange 2003 and had an issue with the Exchange 2003 mailboxes after the migration of the Bes account - permission related from memory.

Follow the steps in the doc link posted above by Knotty Rope.

So- 1.)move the mailbox- this should not affect users on the Exchange 2007 server
2.)Verify the Besadmin has the correct rights ( View Move Request Properties or dd876924)
3.) Make sure all the old users are running (about 95) on the 2007
4.) Add a new users that is only on the Exchange 2010 server(testuser@cfund.org)
5.) Once that is done run the throttling policies
6.) Move the users 10 at a time

The key is that once we move the besadmin, if everyone else is working then we are good to go.

I am in a similar situation. How can I test the conversion on a single 2010 mailbox? Is there a way to have BESadmin which is still on 2007 access a 2010 mailbox. My sysadmins concern is that if we move BESadmin to 2010 and something breaks all users on the BES lose access.

have a backup plan in place, there are no guarantees of 100% in IT

Warn your users of an upgrade and do it at a time when there will be minimal impact.
