Stolen BB !!
 

My son's BB 8310 Curve was just recently stolen :x !!! Is there a way to track it down via law enforcement using the devices GPS capabilities ? It is very important because whoever stole it also stole his iPod touch as well , so it will be a double find if found $$$. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated .

Unfortunately no. In the future you may want to use an application like RobLock that will let you find it.

Make sure you call the carrier and tell them as you are liable for all use up until you call.

See and the thing that sux about at&t and t-mo is that u guys. Run on sim cards.. So they can easily jst exchange the cards n use the fones. U might wanna make a change to a company that doesn't use sims.. That way the fones are useless to them.. Cus they will be reported stolen.. Or lost.. But gud luck.. Hope u find the guys who took it..

That's a big selling point. I can change devices at my own whim without any carrier intervention. It doesn't matter to me if the thief can use the device or not as long as he's not using an active SIM of mine.

Yeah, not worried about it being used, its well protected with passwords, tried Sprint still have it through my work and no offense but it just sucks ass badly. Dropped calls, no coverage big time and the customer support / techs haven't a clue whats going on. But... to each his own I guess. With AT&T I have about 5,000 roll over minutes on reserve, barely any dropped calls, the customer support has been simply flawless !! Thanks for the luck wishes .(y)

That's one of the best things I like !! My kids are always swapping devices as well as myself !! At work, I use an older phone so my BB doesn't get messed up. Can't do any of that with a CDMA device !!;-)

Using a SIM card has nothing to do with it. AT&T and T-Mobile could still block a phone based on the IMEI, they choose not to. You can get the BlackBerrys PIN blocked and that is across all carriers.

If that particular phone had ever called 911 before then the 911 operator could use it and check where the phone is signaling at but if your sons phone has never been used to call 911 then they can't track it

And the police would not use that to get the location to get a phone back.

Just asking, if I called 9-1-1 over 2 years ago they could locate my cell phone.

Didn't relize it had been that long but I don't see why if the phone is on and the gps tracker is active why they couldn't. My experience had been with recently stolen phones. It sure wouldn't hurt to try it

Your carrier can suspend service on your mobile number, effectively rendering your SIM useless.

And your basing this on the call center have this ability correct.
