Anyways to get a brigher screen in there?

Unfortunately not, it's a known issue with that serires and model. The colour screen technology has been greatly improved with the release of the 77xx series of BB's and further enhanced with the release of the 7290.

I'm looking forward to the 7290.

Keep in mind that there is a slight tradeoff with the 77XX and the 7290 for non-backlight use and outdoor use. The screens of the 77XX and 7290 are darker without backlight than the 7280 without backlight. You will end up using the backlight more often on the 77XX and 7290 than you did on the 7280. Not nearly as bad as a non-backlit 7100 though :D

Screens with good backlights tend to be darker without the backlights, because of reflectivity versus transmissivity.
