BES 5 and BES 10 on same server and BB CALS?
Hey all, I'm reading a bunch of info on the topic but finding something definitive is tough. I want to run BES 5 and BES 10 on a new 2k8 R2 server, can this be done? (I'm assuming get 5 up and running then install 10?)
Also, what's this about CAL's? I don't think we purchased any CAL's when we deployed a couple BES 5's(?) Do we now have to purchase for BES 10? TIA! |
Re: BES 5 and BES 10 on same server and BB CALS?
yes you can run both on same server
Are you running full BES or Express which was free? CALs fr BES 10 can be purchased once your trial runs out |

Is it just a simple BES 5 install then a BES10 install on the same server? Will 10 recognize that 5 is installed so we can administer from the one console? Yes, for 5 we were installing Express. Does 10 have the express option or do we have to purchase CAL's for every BlackBerry we put on the 10 server? What if we have all the BB's in 5 Express but want to manage it in BES 10 (CAL's still needed)? Appreciate the help - would you have a link to setup instructions for the dual BES server? |
Re: BES 5 and BES 10 on same server and BB CALS?
manuals here
BlackBerry - Manuals and Guides if you want totally free for BB10 then use active sync BES 10 is free, you just pay for CALs which is on par for cost with most MDM solutions |

Is this CAL more like a licence key to manage all the BB10 devices or is it on per device basis? Any reason why BES10.1 is not backward compatible? By default, id assume a BB10 express interface must be able to manage bb 6/7 OS devices? Ramu |
Re: BES 5 and BES 10 on same server and BB CALS?
If you use BES10 + Blackberry 10 devices, you need a device CAL for every device. About $80 Per device if I am remember correct. Dont forget you dont have to pay an extra monthly charge to your wireless provider if you use BBB10 devices. This easily sums up to the price of a permanent CAL within one year.
The reason why BES10 is not backwards compatible ? This is a complete new software, for a new hard and software platform. Sure, it would be nice if it was backwards compatible, but, it is not. However, with the BES10 comes a unified console which allows to manage any blackberry device. The functionality is basic, but maybe enough to be useful. |

So what ur saying is we just install the BES10 express (free of cost i think) and then talk to support for CALS?? Also, the unified console can manage all bb 6/7/10 devices? pls confirm if my understanding is correct or wrong? Best Ramu |

BES10 (there is no express version) is free of charge. You get a 60 Day trial. If you add CALS the demo will convert to a normal version.
You should have a US english version of Windows Server (it is possible however to convert a non US english version to US english) the simple unified console for Classic devices looks like this: |
