Oops, Android may have outsold iphone in Q1 2010

But both were behind Blackberry. Is Gizmodo happy to splash this news? My guess is yes.

Android Surpasses iPhone's Sales for Q1'2010 - BlackBerry - Gizmodo

Who in there right mind would buy an iPhone right now with a new one right around the corner? So iphone sales are down.....um, duh!!

Q1 runs January to March. I can believe maybe March would be affected, but is there any proof of a drop so far before the releases? How was Q1 last year for example?

If this is so obvious, should we expect iphone leading in Q4?

Exactly, iphone buyers are waiting for the new one. Also, some have been busy playing with their new iPads as well. not really a big story. Now if the android market outsold the apple app store then it would be a big story.

It's easy to project back to Q1 on what people were thinking. But Apple sold a record number of iphones in Q1 2010. Higher than Q4 2009 which is normally the big quarter for phone sales for everyone. So were people really holding off? Proof of the next version didn't show up until Q2.

The smartphone market is growing so fast that it takes big increases in sales just to maintain market share. iphone has a bit of a cap in the US as long as there's no CDMA version. If this story is correct, AT&T has exclusivity until 2012.
Confirmed: Apple and AT&T signed five-year iPhone exclusivity deal -- but is it still valid? -- Engadget

I think Apple jumps back to #2 in Q3, but Q4 is going to be a dogfight.

I'm selling the same amount as usual, a lot of people aren't waiting for the iPhone 4. The general consumer wants immediate gratification despite launch being a short while away.

Android phones are available from sources other than at&t. If the iPhone was available from someone else it's sales would rise out of proportion.

You are talking about the symptom and not the disease.

Agreed, limiting the iphone to only ATT in the US is hurting its sales. ATT must be giving Apple some serious coin to maintain the agreement.

verizon slapped apple in the face, and i 100% agree with verizon on the issuse, att cust support is great, apple is if not the worst one of the worst cust supports i ever deal with i rather talk do dell support then apple.

att does not have to do anything, tho i would love it if they support the phone not apple. apple support is a joke.

I can definitely attest to this also. Apple's customer service is the absolute worst I have ever encountered.
