Tell me about using T-Mobile's 9700 on other networks.

I'll be buying a T-Mobile 9700 used since local prices are way too high. The local networks here use 2100Mhz for their UTMS frequency, and as far as I can tell both versions (T-Mobile's and AT&T) support it, so no matter which one I buy, I should be able to utilise 3G here right? I understand T-Mobile BBs won't be able to use 3G on AT&T, but only because AT&T uses 1900/850, rather than the universal 2100Mhz.

Also I'll be able to activate a T-Mobile set locally (I'm in Singapore) so long as the PIN is no longer locked to T-Mobile's Blackberry service correct? Thanks!

Moved to the 9700 section.

T-Mo 9700 frequency
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100

Singtel is GSM 900/1800. I did not see UTMS 2100 listed. But from what I see, I think it will be EDGE only, but I am not a frequency guru. Perhaps one will come along soon to give the correct information.

The device will need to be unlocked and the IMEI and PIN must be clear and not connected to a BIS/BES account. Before you buy a used BB, no matter where you get it, make sure you read this: http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.p...Berry_off_eBay

Cheers for the link :) I referred to this list: List of UMTS networks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If the list is correct in that my telco uses Band I (which is universal), I should be able to use 3G right?

I think the 1700 band is the issue. It uses 1700 to upload and 2100 to download as I understand it.

If you want a personal opinion, I would not buy a used T-mobile device for use on any carrier but T-Mobile if you want 3G.

Yep, but apparently my telco uses 2100Mhz for both upstream and downstream, which T-Mobile's 9700 supports. I'm just wondering if there's anything besides the frequency bands that differs between the two versions.. The UMTS protocols are otherwise the same right?
