Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 migration
Hello All,
Current configuration: SBS 2003/Exchange 2003 BES 4.1.2 installed on SBS server Only 4 BB users out of 60 Will be decommissioning the SBS server New configuration: Exchange 2010 SP3 on Server 2012 New BESX 5.0.4 install on Server 2008 R2 Situation: I am good with Exchange, not so good with BES/X. Exchange 2010 is up and routing mail. Mailboxes have not been moved but ready to do this. The BESX connected to EX2010 and functioning with test mailbox and new BB phone. Followed all the BESX setup criteria for EX2010 and BESadmin user (this is a new user for BESX the old BES admin was BBadmin) Propose: When I move the BB user mailboxes I just want to get them on the new BESX server with whatever method I need. Will I just wipe and re-activate the phones after I move mailboxes? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

That plan should work.

Re: Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 migration
Thank you.
I subsequently found transporter (duh, told you I was BB newb!) and configured it, preview looks good, only thing is what moves first exchange mailbox or bes account? |
Re: Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 migration
BESAdmin needs to move first or use the new one you made
then once you move user in BES let it stay for a few hours and then move mailbox to new server. Hopefully you made permission on new BESAdmin account to connect to old server and they are in the same exchange org |
Re: Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 migration
Last question. Not sure I get that. Can I have new BESX connected to both old and new Exchange (they are in same org)?
Thank you for the advice, it's much appreciated. |
Re: Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 migration
See KB article KB03296 in the BB KnowledgeBase
As you are moving from one environment to another then it sounds like you could just get away with moving the user mailboxes over in Exchange first, and then use the BB Transporter to migrate the BES account. You should only have one BES account per mailbox. |
