BES 5.0.2 MR5 (Exchange)

We've just begun our Exchange 2007 to 2010 migration and are already seeing messaging delay performance issues for those who've moved.

Included in MR5 for BES 5.0.2 (Exchange), is a new trait called ExchangeEnablePropertyPromotion.

I know this is suppose to address BES/Exchange 2010 performance issues, but does anyone have a source that explains the options in layman's terms? There are three options and I don't know which I need to apply:
  • 0 - disabled
  • 1 - The BlackBerry Messaging Agent promotes MAPI properties on all folder reloads, if required.
  • 2 - The BlackBerry Messaging Agent promotes MAPI properties on all folder reloads, if required, except for the first folder reload. On the first folder reload the BlackBerry Messaging Agent does not promote MAPI properties.

I assume not disabled. Also, the release notes do not indicate what is the default value, if any.

Re: BES 5.0.2 MR5 (Exchange)

Hi,

We have similar performance issues after migration to Exchange 2010.
The delay is between 1-10min.
I don't know what you are meaning with "layman's terms" but if you experience delay issues,
check out these BES KBs:

blackberry.com/btsc/KB22812]KB22812-Intermittent mail delivery issues are experienced on BlackBerry smartphones when Microsoft Exchange is configured behind a load balancing appliance
or
blackberry.com/btsc/KB25654]KB25654-Mail delays when using Microsoft Exchange 2010

here is also a description how the message flow in BES works:
docs.blackberry.com/en/admin/deliverables/16573/Messaging_process_flows_224462_11.jsp]Messaging process flows - Feature and Technical Overview - BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange - 5.0.2

Our problem are still the Exchange 2010 CAS Servers. These are VMs and are not able to handle the RPC requests as fast as the physical systems which we had on Ex2007.

You can also check the RPC queue lenght on your CAS servers on Exchange 2010 via the Perfmon to see if these are well used.

Re: BES 5.0.2 MR5 (Exchange)

HaPe,

Thank you for your reply.

I'm actually looking for an easy to understand explanation of the ExchangeEnablePropertyPromotion trait options -

1 - The BlackBerry Messaging Agent promotes MAPI properties on all folder reloads, if required.
2 - The BlackBerry Messaging Agent promotes MAPI properties on all folder reloads, if required, except for the first folder reload. On the first folder reload the BlackBerry Messaging Agent does not promote MAPI properties.

Re: BES 5.0.2 MR5 (Exchange)

Update: Installing MR5 resolved the message delays users with mailboxes on Exchange 2010 were experiencing.

For the record, after installing I ran -
traittool -global -trait ExchangeEnablePropertyPromotion -set 2
