BlackBerry still envision themselves as a Premium Brand, with a premium price. I guess we will see in the next few months how that plays out.

About mistakes, a couple things I learned from Losing the Signal....

Lazaridis many times and significantly read users and the future wrong. He thought bandwidth would continue to be precious and become even more precious, for example. He went by what he wanted and thought was best and not what the market wanted. You can't sell the best when it's the best if the market wants something else, not that BlackBerry really tried either.

I was surprised at how much BlackBerry was at the mercy of the carriers. You have to hand it to Apple for doing what BlackBerry didn't have the guts or the skill to do when BlackBerry was on top. All the assumptions Lazaridis had made and stubbornly insisted on were proved wrong by occurrences forced by Apple and the iPhone. I was left wondering how many of the bad assumptions were Lazaridis accepting the paradigm defined by the carrier and how much originated with Lazaridis himself. Undeniably, Apple disrupted the market, and overall in a good way. BlackBerry was too little too late.

I think once they flip to Android only, they will just be one of the many who offer an Android phone. BB thinks they have a lock on software and some apps. It's only a matter of time before someone builds a better mouse trap and with the total lack of leadership and understanding of the market it will be good bye to BB.

does this forum use indicate anything?

I heard that they were going to offer another Priv, but running BBOS. Good for the diehards I guess.

An unsubstantiated rumor....

Looks nice but the $699.00 is a bit more that I can tolerate.
Hopefully ATT will offer it at a big discount.

Some carrier are now charging my the gig and even some ISP are charging for data now since hulu, neflix etc are cutting into their commercial showings and they are losing money

Re: No Discussion Of BlackBerry Priv Slider? What's Happened To BBF?!?

That's true, but it's why I used the word precious. Lazaridis expected data to become in short supply. But everyone, or practically everyone is streaming music and video, and it's affordable. It's no surprise to me that people should pay for what they use; the lesson is that the market innovates to meet demand. I think that's what Lazaridis certainly knows, but he was too conservative to be the one to push the envelope.

Interesting , ATT login only shows classic and passport when I try.
Maybe it's limited in some areas

Thanks for the link. Interesting article. I wonder why Blackberry the supposed leader in cell phone security would switch to Android and have to offer a new App to detect security leaks on the new phone. Seems like another leadership blackout!!

hope they offer BB10 os

The price tag is one big negative. When I received an email ad this AM touting the Kardashians as PRIV users, that completely kills any interest that I had in this product.

The bigger the butt the bigger the price. Must be the link.

ATT web site has the Priv listed for $739.99 no contract. Even more than expected.
they may be trying to push people to the monthly price.

Seems BlackBerry faced with a smart decision and a stupid decision is going to make the stupid decision most of the time.

Re: No Discussion Of BlackBerry Priv Slider? What's Happened To BBF?!?

The only way Blackberry will survive is if they develop some thing that people want and is only available using the Blackberry phone. Apple does that with some of their offerings and make people think it is something they need. Android is just another OS designed to allow cheap apps to be loaded and used. Blackberry had the lead in security but with the move to other type operating systems that advantage is lost. The only thing they need to do now to capture the users is to develop a new type phone with a wired attached keyboard with a screen about 15 inches. It can be called a Personal Cell ( PC ) and be powered by AC.

Now that the Priv is available on Verizon I may give one a shot. Still pondering, still firmly in the iPhone camp, but pondering none the less.

Re: No Discussion Of BlackBerry Priv Slider? What's Happened To BBF?!?

Sadly the carrier's don't list the BB's unless you search and not all products are available. I don't think Blackberry is pushing them to offer. ATT has them near the bottom of the list but only two models and Verizon has more model offers but again on the bottom
