This is an antique, precision scientific instrument formeasuring the specific gravity of liquids. The device has many components, andappears to be made of brass, anodized aluminum, glass, and stainless steel. Itis in excellent condition, with the exception of a very fine metal wire thatjoins a weight to the density measurement glass bob. See photo. This is brokenbut can be retied / replaced.
Included is a wooden storage box that securely holds thecontents. The back of the box has a split. The box is 9.25 “wide x 6.75 “Deep x4” High.
Marked ‘A.H. Thomas Co, Phila’ on the box and on the balancearm. It is also stamped ‘Made InGermany’ on the balance arm. The underside of the base has the numbers 7 and 12stamped into the metal. The number 7 is stamped on the underside of the balancearm and on the tube extension.
The glass \'displacement vessel\' is marked \'Celsius / Korpern Reimann / 5 gr verdrangend / 974\'
This is a very handsome antique instrument. It likely datesto the early part of the 20th Century.
