OK... here's something to think about... people talking about why this happened aren't even close to the truth... Each of the carriers in North America have dedicated fiber to the RIM relay from their networks. DOS attacks will not affect the link between the carriers and the relay, this means that PIN messaging will not be affected in the event of a DOS attack against RIM.

I know for a fact, that an outtage (not this one) was caused because of a university co-op not realizing that the rack he was taking apart was a production rack, in the production room as opposed to the test rack in the test room, and no... I was not the co-op student.

I can all but guarantee that the 3 big ones in the last few years were due to hardware issues (once) and human error (twice).
