Default Assigning messaging agents and Exchange 2007 / 2010 coexistence

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all!

So now that I have some users on 2007, some on 2010, and a fair share of problems, I want to make sure that I can guarantee that the 2007 users are on certain messaging agents and the 2010 users are on others. Say 2007 on 1-5 and 2010 on 6-10. I know they'll never mix.

However, the only way I see to assign an agent is statically one by one. I understand that BES basically opens one agent per mailbox server, but I want to make sure that if I set something (like EWS URLs) on certain agents that I can guarantee which users/mailbox servers will be assigned to them. I'd hate to set a trait for agent 6 with 2010 users on it, then reboot the BES and see that agent 6 now has my 2007 users.

Is there any way to mass assign a messaging agent, either by group or policy (or by BESUserAdmin script, if that's what it comes down to)?

I've contacted RIM support about this before and it can't be done. Unless you could come up with a hack that I wouldn't recommend.

Are you moving all to 2010?

Get a mirgration kit if you are moving to 2010, then keep the new BES with users only on 2010.

Yes, eventually we'll bring them all over to 2010 in bulk. I was hoping not to have to bring up another BES server. Some of them are at Device OS levels that may not handle the move well and we don't have the leverage to force upgrades.
