Overview
The BlackBerry Monitoring Service is a web-based solution designed to help monitor and manage the BlackBerry environment. By providing continuous automated monitoring, the BlackBerry Monitoring Service proactively identifies system issues or events that may cause an interruption in BlackBerry smartphone service and sends detailed alerts to administrators.
The Blackberry Monitoring Service performs the following functions:
- Monitors multiple BlackBerry Enterprise Server computers in the same BlackBerry Domain using a single BlackBerry Monitoring Service
- Sends email or Short Message Service (SMS) notification messages to specified recipients if the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is not functioning properly
- Uses thresholds to monitor particular components of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry smartphone user accounts
- Creates reports and runs predefined reports to gather information about the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry smartphone user accounts
- Creates graphs to view snapshots of the current data collected by the BlackBerry Monitoring Service
Note: The BlackBerry Monitoring Service
should be installed on a seperate server from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (it is a remote component).
Comment: This is a FAQ from many. Make sense to install BES Monitoring Service on a seperate server as how else will you know if your BES crashes and brings down the Monitoring Service along with it prior it can send out that email / SMS alert to you? Common sense, just my 2 cents worth.
