Rogers - Data usage, trying to cut down
Please Login to Remove!
So company is starting to crack down on data and voice usage on our bb. We have a pretty crappy plan…7mb, sucks I know, anyway I use about 15mb-20mb per mth, which I don’t think is much, but when you only have 7 I guess it is.
So my question(s) is/are, How much data does
An incoming email consume? ( no attachment just text )
An outgoing email consume?
A pin msg ( in and out )
A bb messenger msg ( in and out )
And the one that I think is doing me in….Facebook, Status updates, sending / receiving msg, poking.
Any rough indication would be greatly appricated.
Guess it would help, maybe not…..using a BB8310.

Email in plain text (not HTML) is received in 2KB 'chunks'. Each time you click 'more' another 2KB is sent to the device. PIN and BBMessenger are a lot less, but a lot of convos back and forth can add up. Facebook will use a lot of data.
What is your company paying of 7MB? There are new plans from Rogers that are 'Flex' plans (for BES) that start at $45/mo and your will automatically be bumped up to the next tier of usage rather than get charged for data overage (if needed).

i guess i can remove facebook.......but i do a lot of bb msging....2-3hrs a day of chatting on it.....so i guess that cld add up.

You're not on a BES? Ah, yes, the 250 voice plan. That one sucks.
Not sure how much facebook consumes, but any time something is pushed to your device there is data usage. I'd guess about the same as an email message - 1-2KB.

I take it even if i don't read the msg it still accounts for data usage? Anything pushed to the device 1-2kb....sorry just want to be sure.

Yes. If the msg is received on your device, data was used to get it there.

minutes and data usage tracker
I have a8900 bb with rogers in Canada. Is there any software or app available to track data usage and or cell phone miunte usage?
I've heard about minimova but i havent had any luck. I've also tried Pageonce but I haven't been able to find their cell minutes tracker and thier support never gets back to me.
Any suggestion would be appreciated!! Let me know @

I work for a company called Mobile Data Solutions based in Canada. We specialize in all cellular data solutions including the billing and plan optimization for our customers. I agree with the suggestion to move to the flex plan as it is the most cost effective plan that Roger's is currently offering. If your organization would like any help with BES hosting/monitoring/managing, device support or billing management/plan optimization/rate negotiating or if you have any questions please give me a call 403-471-0947 Dianne

You can send about 250 emails containing about 250 words with no images and it will consume 1mb. Doesn't matter if it is outgoing or incoming. Images is what is killing you. Don't use the full Facebook, just the app created for BB, it uses a lot less. PIN and messenger uses hardly any data. I THINK..but not sure....that if you register on the Rogers website you can view "unbilled usage" which contains data as well as voice usage from the last billing date.

They have this $45 Blackberry Messaging plan that comes with 500Mb of data and you have a choice of 3 features; one is unlimited text/picture/video.
Rogers Communications - Wireless, Digital Cable TV, Hi-Speed Internet, Home Phone
There's also the $35 Value Pack (which I have) in case you already have a good voice plan you don't want to get rid of that has the following:
# 500 MB for e-mail, Instant Messaging and browsing1
# Call Display with Name Display2
# Enhanced Voicemail
# Unlimited Text Messages3
# Unlimited Picture/Video Messages
# WhoCalledxxx8482;
