Question Can't sync my BB Bold to Desktop Manager!

Please Login to Remove!

I recently upgraded from a Curve to a Bold and while I've been loving this new device, I ran into some sync problems a week ago.

Now when I connect my Bold to my laptop, I get the following error message from Desktop Manager:

""Failed to connect to the device. Please make sure that the device is properly connected and try again."

I've tried rebooting my laptop and my Bold. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling DM from the CD that came with the device. I've tried installing the latest version from the BlackBerry website. Nothing seemed to work. The strange thing is, when my BB is connected the PIN does show up in DM...

Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!

Specs:

Laptop: Windows XP
BB: Bold (AT&T), OS version .190
DM: version 4.6

Do you have USB selected in the configuration?

Have you tried pulling the battery on the BB and letting it reboot?

Try DM 4.2 SP2/SP3 since you are running XP. Make sure you don't have more than one instance of DM on your PC.

What problem did you have at first?

I didn't have any other problems before - it's just been this one for the last couple weeks.

I have made sure the USB connection is selected, and I've tried the other USB port. And oddly enough, I never had any problems with my previous BB.

I will try downgrading to DM 4.2 - can I still download it from the BlackBerry website? Is this recommended because 4.6 is known for its problems? 4.7 as well?

Thanks everyone!

And you've checked to see that the usb drivers are working correctly? Is anything else connected with usb?

Yup, have double-checked USB ports and they're otherwise working normally - iPod, Garmin watch, jumpdrive all connect without any problems. It's the strangest thing - I didn't install anything or make any changes to my computer since the last time I successfully synced my BB.

And no, there's nothing else currently hooked up to the USB ports. I only use them for temporary syncing - no permanent peripherals (e.g. mouse, printer, etc.).

Hmmm...tried installing DM 4.2 SP2 but nothing happened when I plugged in my BB - DM didn't seem to detect it. My computer recognized that I had plugged in a new device, that's all.

Worth it to try DM 4.3, 4.4 or 4.5?

Question

Same thing has happened to me. The phone charges via USB just fine but two different computers fail to show it as a USB device (MacBook Pro and Win XP). I've restarted both computers as well as my BB.

What's strange is that my Bold also no longer prompts me to enable the "mass storage device" when I plug it in. Everything else seems to be working normally....

Yeah, I'm just frustrated - I've tried many of the older versions of DM, including 4.2, 4.3, 4.5 and 4.6.

The strange thing is, my old BB (Curve) still syncs fine without any problems...

I think it is a combo of 2 different things:

1) USB port on the BB is failing
2) Something on the BB OS was "broken"

I wiped my BB (except for the installed 3rd Party Apps) and was able to get the DM to recognize the BB was connected -- however -- I had to play with the USB cable connection in order for the BB to "stay connected."

YMMV --

please double cross check with 2 device and 2 computer.

This will know where the problem, on laptop or device.

if you have, try with same and different device version.

Unhappy

I think I have the same problem. It did work initially and DM 4.7 did recognise and sync BBY Bold.
Now it won't. I have uninstalled and re-installed DM 4.6 and 4.7. I think it may have something to do with the USB on BBYM
I'm running Vista Home Premium on laptop and it recognises BBY as mass storage device OK.
It seems to be just DM that doesn't see BBY as connected. In DM settings I can see in the drop down list the BBY's 6 digit I'd,
When I select it the DM still shows device connected: none. Heeeeelp.

It looks like it was a .216 issue. I wiped my BB and upgraded to .221 and it appears to have gone away. Definitely appears to be OS related for me.

YMMV
