Default New BB User - Curve 8310 OS Update Issue

Please Login to Remove!

I just got a Curve 8310 with AT&T and I want to use a 8GB microSDHC card in it. I don't have the card yet, but I saw that unless I update from OS the current 4.2 to the 4.5 version, the BB might only recognize 2 GB of the card's memory.

I went to an official blackberry site to update the OS, but when I run the installer with the phone connected to my computer, it says that I already have the latest OS version even though it's running in 4.2. AT&T's site only seems to let you download version 4.2 also. Ugh!

If it download version 4.5 from, say, the link provided in a post I saw in this forum, will that void my warranty with AT&T? Is there any danger of damaging the phone by updating the OS from an "unofficial" source? Anyone know when AT&T will allow users to download 4.5 from their site?

TYIA for any help!

PS
I have already downloaded the Desktop Software, version 4.7.

Hi arc,
The BB OS places these limits on memory card sizes, but I read in another thread in the Media forums that you can use all 8GB on OS4.2 if you format the card on a PC using FAT. I haven't tested this so I can't verify it. But you can give it a shot and lets see what happens.

If it doesnt work for you, you could always update the OS using the info in the sticky. You could check with AT&T if they'll allow you to use a different carrier's OS, and also ask em when they'll have a 4.5 released.

Wirelessly posted

Another thing if you delete the vendor xl and it won't update you might have to reinstall desktop manager and take off check for updates
