OK, I knew I could figure it out! I was just too excited about my pink pearl!

This picture is my white pearl with the "pink" pearl next to my hubby's black pearl and the normal "white" pearl so you can see the difference. It's a really soft pink when lit up, it just doesn't photograph well...

It seems like it is redish in the pic, but i am sure that with the led it looks pink.

Nope, it's pink. Hubby wouldn't be caught dead with my phone anymore!

I'm sure you could do the same with some red felt or similar though!

Ok, got rather annoyed when turning on the lights under the trackball I can't see them because my trackball is now pink! I called T-Mobile to ask if there is any way that I can just purchase a new trackball and plop it in there. "No, we will have to charge you $100 to replace that piece." Why should I have to pay $100 for them to fix what their product caused? I didn't do it! Now they are sending me a replacement phone, but it will be a refurbished one and I'm not to thrilled about that. My new Pearl is only two and a half weeks old. I paid $200 for a new one, not a refurbished one. Sorry, I just had to rant! If anyone has any ideas on how to get rid of the pink tint to my trackball, I would greatly appreciate it!!

As far as i was told by t-mobile that is if you have them,The phone has a 30 day warranty by tmobile so if the phone is defective it should cost you $0 T-mobile should replace because i believe the trackball is white originally,I may be wrong but when i called them thats what they told me. chris

I went and talked to my local T-Mobile rep last night and told him what was going on. All of them started laughing when I told them that Blackberry tech support wanted to charge me $100 to replace the phone. The lady in tech support tried to make it out like it was my fault for putting the phone in the case. I explained to her that it was a T-Mobile case. Anyway, I finally got tech support to send me a replacement phone and I just have to pay the $9.95 for the shipping. I'm still a little peeved about getting a refurbished phone to replace my brand new phone. But, I was told by my local rep that the refurbished phones are better tested than the new phones. So, we shall see.

Interesting note, when I was talking with my local rep, he looked everything up on my account and he said that it was noted on the account that it was a known issue that the pink case was turning the trackball pink on the Pearl.

Unhappy What is this about the pink T-Mobile Case?

I just got my Pearl for my birthday, and received the pink case from T-Mobile? Should I not use it? I already opened it, so will T-Mobile take it back if they are aware of the problem?

Well, my suggestion would be if you don't want a pink trackball, don't use the case and take it back to T-Mobile. I was told that Cingular has a really nice case that is leather and has a plastic cover for the front of the phone with a hole for the trackball. I'm out to get that one when I get my replacement Pearl.

Pop the Track ball out of the refurb, and put it in yours. Put your track ball in the refurb.

send the reburb back and tell them you decided not to change.!!!

If it were me... I would try putting a small amount of nail polish remover on a cotton ball, and rubbing the cotton ball over the trackball.

I think that a less permanent way would be to paint the led under the trackball instead of the Pearl. It will be alot easier to get all of the color off of the LED than the whole Pearl. I think one of these days i will muster up enough courage to do that.

On a side not, what really bugs me is the fact that the trackball can put on a light show when a call comes in but is white the rest of the time. There has to be a way to forve it to become a diffrent color all the time.

Not at this time. I started to write an application that (among other things) would let the user change the trackball color. When I didn't see that setting as an option in the code I contacted RIM to see if it was a possibility. I was told that, at this time, they are not allowing third-party developers programmatic access to the trackball. This includes the lighting.

So, unless they change their mind in a future OS release, or unless an RIM employee delivers a ninja hack... we are stuck with Sharpies and felt.

I am not worried about it..... That is what they make nail polish remover and hairspray for.... Makes permanent marker disapear

My friend used a paper towel with blue food coloring to dab it on the ball.

Now the Pearl has a light blue tint to it.

See my pic of the Pearls light. I wonder if one put a piece of clear colored film over it, if that would change the color.

Lots of ways to change the color if one wants to.

One advantage is that dirt will not show up if one goes from white to some other color.

Definately do not recommend this. If you search around this forum you'll find that replacing the trackball is probably not a "pop-in pop-out" type of thing.

San Fran, it's hard to see the trackball on that photo, do you have one from a different angle or something??

I could not get the pic right, that is, to show it is a rectangle led that sits flush with the surface. If you look closely with a loupe, one can see that the surface can handle a pice of film over it.
