Hot new things aren’t always better.
Instead of asking if folks are going to “jump ship,” I’d ask for a one-sheet comparison between the two.

Love the Wifi, but the size of the 8800 might turn me off. I love the size of the Pearl. The Wifi is definitely a great feature, but not sure I really need it enough to offset the size.

Since we know the Pearl quite well, letxxx8217;s pay attention to the 8800:

- New narrow QWERTY design - the ultimate balance of form and function
- Ultra slim form factor with full keypad and large 320 x 240 screen for optimized data input.
- Dimensions: 106 x 60 x 15.5 mm
- Bridges voice and data centric users looking for a sleek, slimmed down design optimized for exceptional data entry yet small enough to be used as a phone.
- Full multimedia feature set
- Camera - 1.3 mp, 5x digital zoom, flash and video recording
- Media Player - audio and video playback/streaming, stereo headset compatible.
- 64 MB Flash, expandable memory (Micro SD)
- Expanded feature set complements core productivity, functionality and strengthens appeal to a broader segment of users - particularly retail consumers.
- Great phone experience
- Advanced noise and echo cancellation
- Voice activated dialing, speakerphone, Bluetooth 2.0
- Quadband EDGE + 802.11bg
- Extend data and voice coverage at home, work, hotspots.

I will keep the Pearl as I like the tiny size, the 8800 is about 3/4 of an inch wider if the specs I saw were correct. The Pearl being 50mm and it being 66mm's and its 114 mm long. I also dont like the offside number layout, eechhh. Video recording is just a rumor from all I read.

I also never understood the need for wifi as if someone has a BB, they should have an unlimited data plan IMO as your just crippling a few of the main BB features without one.

EDITED NOTE. I just edited this as I noticed that the 8800's size varys depending upon what website you took the information from. So the 8800 is approx. almost a 1/2 at minimum to 3/4 at max wider than the Pearl.

So to me nothing new I want or need in the 8800 over what I already have in the Pearl.

Yeah, wi-fi is insignificant since I use my MackBook laptop everywhere.
Pearl stays!

One of the main reasons why I bought the Pearl is, because it actually looks like a phone--not a notepad (like all of the other bulky/wide BB). Looking at the pics of the 8800, it really does look like "another BB" (although slimmer).
The 8800 has the trackball as well.

I just noticed that. Well, I hope it's an improved version with less hiccups.

I agree with a previous post saying that it is tough to compare the 2 devices because of the differences in the keyboards. I have been using suretype now for about 2 years, but I still don't like it. QWERTY is the way to go!

Camera and WiFi are no big deal, but the 8800 is sweet! Got to get that. The pearl is a great phone, but you have to admit that it is a little slower and less stable than previous BB's.

Hopefully the 8800 will be as fast and stable as the 7130 and 8700!
But, still gonna get one anyways!

If that's the 8800, then what's this: (note, no camera)
Probably just a few different versions out there for different markets, but the one shown below is definitely my favorite flavor I've seen yet. Honestly, unless they get the video capture, beef up the media features, and get wifi worth it, I'll stick with my 8100. I'm really digging suretype- no need for full size keys, when I only press each button once anyway.

Not for me. The only reason I switched to BB was the slim, candybar formfactor (with MM capabilities) of the Pearl.

Not going anywhere. Love the pearl and shape/size. Maybe (stress...maybe) when I'm eligible for a new device I'll look, but that's well over a year from now so...long live the Pearl.

So maybe gadget guy or someone in the know will soon come up w/ a comparison sheet..........of two functional units....I'd like to see how batt. life for the WiFi in the 880 would hold up and then compare it to the Pearl and all the other real world everyday uses......
