yeah, as far as drilling holes in the battery cover goes for me... i wouldnt try it. but what i did do to fix this problem a long time ago was take one of my business cards, cut the corner off (to just over the size of the speaker) and used a very small amount of super-glue on the corners of the cut card and placed it over the speaker. it solved the problem and doesnt muffle it any. if it does, i cant tell and neigther could my wife.

its a safer alternative and if you ever need to warranty ur phone, you can get the new battery cover too. not to mention that any dirt/dust/lint wont get in thru the holes.

You just have to be mechanically inclined. I did mines months ago and it's great with better sound quality.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I am mechanically inclined. I like my stuff to look like new and don't like how dust and lint get under the back cover as it is. Try it, then take the back cover off while playing music and there is no difference.

So for anyone that wants the alternative, take my advise.

Just did it. I don't REALLY know why now that I think about it. I got excited, drilled the holes. It sounds better, but I don't really need it to. Sort of instant regret. It looks good. Thats not the issue, I just feel silly.

lol, think of it as experienced in drilling gained .

I was actually gona do that when I saw the original post but right away thought of dust/lint/dirt getting in. Then I saw that new backing plate with the speaker cover......yeah thats what I'll be buying next .
