Default 9700 Wifi preferences

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I've bought a brand new bold 9700 from bell. When I'm home, I want to connect my Bold 9700 to my network but it seems to switch very often on the network. I did a research on this forums and I've noticed that I can make Wifi prefered over the network. But theres no option in manage connection/mobile network option --> connection preference ---> wifi prefered. Anyone else noticed that?

Thanks

That option hasn't been available since OS 4.2.

Do you have a Blackberry Data plan for the 9700 with Bell? Dose the Wi-Fi logo turn bright white? The both answers are yes, then all BIS/BES data will go via Wi-Fi when the logo is bright.

Yes I've seen the wifi logo but sometimes it works on wifi, sometimes not. I think I can't change preference because the Bell bold doesnt support UMA...

The option only exists on UMA blackberries (the 8900 has it)

i have a similar problem... i bought a bell 9700 but i'm using it on T-mobile... TMO allows for UMA connections... my 8900 worked fine for UMA, but the 9700 doesn't even give me the connection pref. option... i tried to downgrade to the latest official TMO release software but even then nothing...

any help/suggestions would be great!

T-Mobile UMA only works for T-Mobile branded devices.

My wifi preferences tend to get ignored even though I have wifi in the house and terrible cell coverage...so I just leave the radio off entirely, giving the phone no other choice but to go strictly wifi. Doesn't bother me at all, as I'm pretty sure I've gotten a boost in battery life by having the radio off most of the time. Or it could be that I'm just using the phone less now that I have proper home internet. :D

Default WiFi on 9700

Hey,

Sorry if this was already answered but it wasn't quite clear in this post so I'll ask.

I got my wife the 9700 and we have the data plan with Telus. She's set up to use our WiFi at home. Does that mean while at home, she can browse and download data (via Google Maps app or web browsing) without it racking up her data usage on the Telus plan?

Again, sorry if this has already been answered.

Default I am on Fido and dont have options for Wifi Only / Wifi Preferred as below

Any idea why this is the case ? I have a data plan but would prefer to use WIFI when available in preference to cell signal all the time.. Surely it cant be this difficult ?

As per the document from Blackberry referenced earlier....
To change the Connection Preference options, complete the following steps:

On the Home screen, go to Options.
Select Mobile Network.
Select one of the following options:
Mobile Network Only
Mobile Network Preferred
Wi-Fi Only
Wi-Fi Preferred
