Default Sync Outlook email STATUS with BlackBerry without Exchange Server or BB Server?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a small business, so don't have Exchange Server or BlackBerry Server.

Just purchased a BB Curve 8330 'cause the sales person said that NOW I CAN SYNC Outlook with BB such that when I read or delete an email on (BB or my laptop) the STATUS (read or deleted) will show up on the other device (laptop or BB).

So, I got the BB all set up, and I CANNOT SYNC the STATUS. I recieve emails just fine on both my laptop and BB. But, the STATUS of these emails (read, deleted, etc) does not sync. After talking to the nice tech support person at Verizon, I now understand that it is not possible to SYNC email STATUS unless you use Exchange Server or BlackBerry Server.

Is there a third-party app that will sync the STATUS of EMAILs between Outlook and a BlackBerry?
Is there some sort of work-around to make the email STATUSes sync?

Who is your email provider?
Some email providers (Yahoo Mail for example) will reconcile deletions and read/unread marks.
Most other email accounts integrated with BIS will NOT do this.

My email is a hosted POP3 server with my small business' domain.

There's nothing you can do then.
POP3 accounts will not reconcile deletions or read/unread marks.
Sorry.

You might ask your provider if they offer hosted exchange with BES. That will give you all the perks without any of the capitol expense.

May I respectfully ask what your depth of experience is with BlackBerry regarding syncing with Outlook?

Fairly extensive. I'm a BlackBerry Certified Systems Administrator with about 9 years of working experience in various fields of mobile computing technology including BES, Good and Activesync. I've been working with Outlook and Microsoft Exchange for more years than I can remember.
None of that really matters though... and if someone else here has a better solution for your problem, then I'll consider it another learning experience for myself.

The BB and Outlook are irrelevant really. It's the POP3 mail server as soupandsandwich has already stated. Basically, BIS interacts with your mail server and not with Outlook.

I use POP 3 and have the same question. My incoming mail server is hosted at my domain, but the outgoing mail server is smtp.att.yahoo.com Which one is it that is responsible for these reconsiliation marks. Will this suffice to get the needed reconsiliation function thru yahoo or not?

Why not just use IMAP instead of POP3? The email status, sent items, deleted items, etc updates on the server. My laptop, desktop, and bb are all synced just by using IMAP instead.

POP accounts do not reconcile at all, IIRC. Further, the BB doesn't use your SMTP server.

On a slightly similar note...

I'm running exchange 2003, but am not running a blackberry server. I have my own personal blackberry, which is not associated with my domain.

The questions: Is there a way for an alert to be sent to my personal blackberry when a new email arrives in my domain email account? The purpose is to receive a notification when an email arrives, so that if my work computer is off, or it is late in the evening, I can see that I should log in and review my newly arrived email. I don't want to forward the mail due to potential sensitive company info. I'm looking for a trigger of an email or even better, a text message to be generated to say-Hey, check your email. I imagine this is a server side configuration.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. I've been trying to figure this out and it's driving me nuts!

Thank you in advance for your assistance, and for helping out a newbie!

Integrate an email account with BIS or create a *.blackberry.net address. Set up a server side rule to send a message to the BB to alert you.

I second that, why not use IMAP?
