you can block sms with the firewall feature inside your phone.

options> security options> firewall

not sure about calls

I've used antair call blocker since it was released and love it, between that and youmail.com, I save a lot of time and headaches.

I haven't used Antair, but you can create a profile exception to block specific numbers in your phone already. You need to access Profile > Advanced to do so, and have a contact set up with the number you wish to block. If you need details as to how, let me know and I'll dig those up.

Profile exceptions don't actually block calls or SMS messages though. You're just setting the BB to not alert you when specific people try to contact you -- which might work for people in certain cases.

You'd still have to deal with the SMS messages and whatever voicemails were left.

The firewall approach works for blocking SMS but it's all-or-nothing (you can't block specific contacts) and you will still be charged for those SMS messages or have them deducted from your messaging pool.

Youmail has a nice feature in that you can send certain callers and unknown/blocked caller ID numbers to a greeting that doesn't accept messages but instead hangs up after the greeting is done playing. They have some clever "error" greetings if you don't want to let on that you're ignoring them. However, it only works for voice calls (not an SMS solution).

Youmail looks interesting. I'm starting to get these calls from Poughkeepsie, NY and they never say anything. They called 3 times today. Gotta put a block on them. Anybody else get these calls?

So far youmail blocks some unwanted calls of mine pretty nice...I think it still lets them call but it doesn't let them leave a message
