This results in me not being able to send/receive email or browse the web. Any idea why a phone would do this all of the sudden? I have checked my account and I've got the data plan and everything, so it's not that I'm not provisioned to use it.
call *228 option 2. it will update your phone with the latest tower info etc.

Yeah, I tried that. Also tried option 1, soft resetting, praying etc. Nothing worked thus far.

So, it's odd that you don't qualify.
This bothers me. I just called a second CSR and they said the same thing...the $100 is only for new customers. I don't qualify for NE2 until April 2008, but I didn't think that should effect the pricing of the phone.

Am I having these troubles because I am doing an "early upgrade"?

Yep, I bet that's the case. You only get best the discount on the phone about a month before your 2 year contract runs out. Amazon had amazing deals on Pearls (I got mine free on Tmob) but only if you're a new customer. I bet they have it for the 8130 (haven't checked though).

I actually got to the bottom of it. You can do an annual upgrade and get the web site promotional price if you are on a qualifying calling plan. I thought I qualified since I pay $79.99 a month and they state you must pay $49.99 or above. But...they only look at your voice plan for qualification and my voice plan is only $39.99. They don't count bundled services.

However, I can upgrade now at the $299.99 - $50 MIR. So even though it sucks to loose out on the $100, I can't wait another 5 months.

Well OBVIOUSLY that isn't true or else they wouldn't do it. They aren't in business to not make as much money as they can.

Implicit in your statement is the fact that VZW is infallible, in other words, they can't make a business decision that would result in a less than positive financial outcome?

Can you pass the bong please?

So far they've done pretty well with the sheep just paying the bills even though they're higher than most carriers. It wasn't much more with voice plans, but adding data/txt gets them way more revenue with the newer phones, and they're all over that money. That's why I left them after many years. The EVDO network is faster, but it makes little difference to me. I'm happier getting my email/brower/txt for only $20/month from Tmoble now. Saves me a couple benjies a year, and my phone was free too.

But there are 3 plans.

$24.99 using Verizon's WIRELESS SYNC feature... its got a 10MB per month limit... yes $10 Meg!!! this is NOT a BIS plan... as for why someone would choose this over the $29.99 BIS plan.. see Verizon's Wireless sync web page -> Verizon Wireless Sync | WSYNC.COM for what it does.... it syncs calendar/contacts too..

the $29.99 Email and web for blackberry... this is the BIS plan... its called "unlimited" for data... does email and web, but no calendar/contact sync.
Note: this plan used to be $44.99 also, its price was reduced Nov 1.

the $44.99 Unlimited data for blackberry enterprise plan... this is the plan if you are using a BES.. its also called "unlimited" for data...

BUT no matter what the reps verbally tell you... if you read the FINE PRINT for the terms of service on ANY of Verizon's "Unlimited Data" plans.. you'll see a 5gig cap is stated! so Unlimited is NOT unlimited...

Now, as to why the BES plan is $15 more than the BIS plan...

BIS and BES are NOT the same.

If you want to use a Blackberry Enterprise Server aka BES.. you need to use the BES Data plan... BES Does more than just two way mail... so that could justify the extra $15 per month over the BIS plan.
Will the Desktop Redirector (linked to my office's MS Exchange) work with the $29.99 plan?

Default USB Charging 8130

Anyone have a problem trying to charge the 8130 using the supplied USB Cable? I've tried on two PCs and get the same message on the phone. Something about not enough power and check to make sure it's a powered USB port. I know I didn't have that issue with the Curve or 8830 and I'm trying to figure out if it's the cable, the phone or an option.

Usually that's a USB 1.1 type error message. But one thing I did notice is the power charger for the 8130 lists the output at 0.7A whereas my previous BB chargers were 0.5A. So maybe the 8130 requires more juice.

Thanks. I'll check with the store in the morning but my USB ports on both PCs I tried are 2.0.
