I use VZAccess Manager.... specific, of course, to Verizon... so you wouldn't be familiar with it. It's not a bad utility... in fact, it's pretty solid, as XP communication apps go. With the aircard, in MB, it clearly states revA. If I had the aircard here, I would know in a second whether it was revA. The other thing is, when I changed to the 8130, I was given a new version of VZAccess Manager, leaving me with yet more questions of whether it really works the same. Oh well..... I think the clue here is that the modem is clearly marked 1XRTT ... just not sure what that means.

Well, 1XRTT speeds top out at 144kb/s up and down.... not sure why it would show that though. I'm just not familiar with the Verizon app. If you're downloading at 500kb/s then you can be sure you aren't at 1XRTT speeds.

If you are using a laptop, and had previously been using an aircard, then switched to tethering the BB, that might be causing a problem as well.

I just found the 144 kbps number myself... makes no real sense either. I was careful to eliminate ALL of the aircard stuff first. Have you tried tethering your BB? I'm not sure what capabilities the Alltel network has.

I might try and tether it today. It'll use my anytime minutes I hope lol. Just for the sake of seeing the speeds, and being able to post a little more intelligently about its' capabilities hehe.

I just returned to my computer. Earlier, I did some checking on signal levels. Best possible signal in this area (and probably anywhere) is -80db. My computer location is NOT in the ideal spot. Signal levels here are between -90 and -95db. That's a significant drop off that can definitely account for some throughput dropoff. That, of course, is neglecting the whole issue of revA support or not.

yea lol... I am trying to get the software to tether my pearl with alltel, and I can give you an idea of signal strength/speeds comparisons without Rev. A....

I'm having a hard time tracking the software down though. The only things Alltel gives me an option for online are:

RIM 7130e QuickLink Mobile
RIM 8703e QuickLink Mobile
RIM 8830 QuickLink Mobile
Motorola Q

So, I'm not sure which I'm supposed to use with the Pearl, if any.

That is very interesting. I have not tryed to setup a connection without VZAccess Manager. I think I need to do that.. will help me understand the whole process a little more. I'll be on and off this site all day. I have it set up to email me when you (or anyone) posts here. That goes straight to my Pearl (nice). Good luck... look forward to hearing your results.
