Default 8320 browser and Starbuck

Please Login to Remove!

I happen to be at Starbuck's today and wanted to get onto the internet. I received a message (not the exact words) that my browser must be up-dated to use with Starbuck's WiFi.
Anyone have any info on this problem?
Phone service was just OK, but worked on the WiFi.

As far as I know, all tmo hotspot @home phones (incl. BB 8320) will be able to use the HotSpot at Starbucks and Kinkos/FedEX spots free of charge, with no special login process. It's a built in feature of the phones, if you will. If you want to make unlimited calls over UMA/wi-fi, you need to purchase that add-on (I think it's 9.99/mo right now..) If you don't have the add-on, your calls over UMA will just be subtracted out of the minutes from whatever voice plan you have.

i didn't know that starbucks was a tmo hotspot. now i know. still will avoid that place due to the nasty coffee and that all the apple-geeks will be crowding it soon sporting geeky ipods....

@ least now we know Jobs is ruining his teeth with that coffee/kerosene

T-Mobile has a separate HotSpot access plan that they sell for $20 a month. Not to be confused with the H@H addon which just give you unlimited minutes over any wifi connection. It is apparently included with the WM data plan. I don't know if it possible to get on the HotSpot with just a Blackberry data plan.

Fellow members, I have a Tmo voice, data and H@H plan. When at Starbuck, using their WiFi I get an update your browser type message when trying to get onto the internet.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem. I was using to built-in browser, perhaps I should try Mini-Opra? any thoughts?

I have a T-Mobile Hotspot account (just added H@H today) and was able to get onto Starbucks (two different places) and Border's (another T-Mobile Hotspot site) fine. Once it gave me an error and I reran the Setup WiFi Wizard and it came up fine.

That would definitely work, as long as you're on an 8320. Just don't expect free unlimited calls unless you've got the Hotspot @home add-on thing.

Have you verified this with an 8320 or is this an assumption?

It works for me. I went to a Starbucks and a Borders today, and was able to get a WiFi+UMA connection at both with no special login required. Since I just have the BIS add-on, and no HotSpot or H@H, I think mayormullet's theory about it being built into the phone may have some merit.

Not really...

T-mobile made a deal with Starbucks to have their service there.

If Apple was trying to get rid of T-mobile, I am sure T-mobile will try to beat them to it.

Starbucks is too big for T-mobile to lose them.

So I am sure Starbucks made a deal with Apple so they can continue having T-mobile.

What I am wondering about is, are we going to end up seeing Starbucks having AT&T Wi Fi and T-mobile's HotSpot there?
