Unknown Error Reported on Sync w Bold

I'm having a difficult time sync'ing up my BB Bold with Outlook 2002 at work on Exchange. We don't run BES.
When I attempt to sync, it seems to do fine through contacts, but when after it gets about 3/4 of the way through the calendar entries, it tells me "Unknown Error Reported," which is probably not the most helpful guidance they could provide.
I found a long and detailed suggestion list by the moderator John Clark, with lots of things to try for an error message "Unable to read application data", and none of them worked. I'd post a link, but as a nube, I don't have the privilege. That will give me something to work towards I guess.
I find that my first sync attempt of the day goes through with sync message about reconciliation of appointments, and that it generates the Unknown Error towards the end. Subsequent attempts to sync just give me the error - it doesn't even try.
Also, on rare occasions, the calendar has actually sync'ed, so I know it's not impossible. I received that error for many weeks, had a period where things synced intermittently for a week or two, and am back in a period where nothign syncs anymore.
Again, I've followed all the troubleshooting steps in the link above that seemed to apply. I could only find one registry entry in the hkey users folder. I deleted the calendar entirely on my Bold, but can't get it restored.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
