Default Vibrator problems (or, there's a fly trapped in my BlackBerry)

Please Login to Remove!

First post, new user - glad to be here. Community forums have been so much help for me in various arenas.

I got a new Curve on June 16. Today, it started making this odd noise randomly...like a fly is trapped in there. I assume it's the vibrator. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I looking at a possibly DIY fix or a replacement Curve?

When does this happen, what are the circumstances/what does your Bb look like afterwards?

I will say that I have had some instances where my phone will vibrate like I have an email or a text message, but when I pull it out of the holster, there is nothing there. It doesn't happen all that often, so I can live with it.

I can't say that there's any rhyme or reason to it. In the holster, out of the holster, it just randomly buzzes. It's not nearly as strong as a full vibration, and is more audible than tangible.

Do you happen to be near a radio or landline phone or anything else with a speaker when this happens? We call it the BB buzz here when on conference calls. It's actually the BB radio signal interacting with the speaker causing the buzz. I even get it if i leave my BB next to the car radio or desk phone when they're not in use about 3 seconds before a message or call comes in. Either that or I'm becoming psychic.

It happens wherever I am, in the house or out.

Since I posted my last reply, I have noticed that it only happens when the device is facing up, horizontally. If it is vertical or facing down, the buzz does not occur.

You sure you aren't getting pinged in BBM?

Definitely sure. Again, this isn't anywhere near the strength of a normal vibration.

It's looking more & more like I'm going to have to take this thing back to Verizon for an exchange. Under the warranty, what exactly do I need to do? I've never brought a phone in for repair or exchange.

Bring your BB into Verizon and tell them what's going on. I'm sure they'll try to figure out the problem and fix it. If they deem it not fixable, I'm sure they'll replace it for you. That's what the guys at Sprint did for me and I have insurance.
