Default First Blackberry, should I upgrade, newb ?s

Please Login to Remove!

So this past Friday I made the jump to a Blackberry. Sprint offered me an early upgrade, and on a recent road trip I fell in love with my buddies curve, so now I have one of my own. A few things I'm wondering about:

I'm currently running OS version 4.3.0.127 is the new 4.5... worth upgrading to? Any chance this upgrade will allow me to send MMS? (I'll admit thats the one negative blackberry surprise, no mms on a smartphone?) If I upgrade do I have to re-download and install all the aftermarket apps I put on it?

Anyway, all and all I must say this thing is AWESOME. The ease of navigating online is great (A real mouse, on a phone, incredible). I save so much time at work because I no longer have to check my e-mail all day long. My facebook addiction is getting worse and worse with the easy access. I'm less than a week in and I can't see myself going back to a normal cellphone, ever. Any help on the above questions is appreciated, and any advice for a new blackberry user is also appreciated (there is so much to learn). Thanks everyone.

I would definitely recommend the upgrade since it such a significant upgrade.

However - before you upgrade I recommend you take some time to play with the phone and learn as much as you can about it and it different operations and functions.

Then read the stickies on optimizing your memory and how to upgrade using tried and true methods to save yourself some grief and frustration.

A bit of advice if you have just started using the BB. You might want to wait to upgrade the OS until you really get a feel for using what you have. You may find out that what you have works the way you want and or need it to work. I am probably one of the very few who say this, however, I firmly believe that you need to make sure you need to do an upgrade just because you read or heard that the updated package is better. Not always the case. I am sure you have seen the problems people have with new software.

In all honesty, what you see here are mainly problems. You rarely see someone post just because things are working great.

As an FYI, I still run OS 4.2 on my 8800. It works for me and does what I want it to do. It isn't broken so there is no need to try to fix it.

Wirelessly posted

In my opnion upgrade soon. Why learn all the stuff about your phone if its not all the phone can do. Clear the memory of useless stuuf and run with it. The mms is a sprint problem that I don't have with att. But I havew seen something about a fix out for it if it works I have no clue. Not all upgrades are good but I say this one is. All in all its up to you.

yes it is up to you. i would go up to 4.5. i have seen way better battery life, faster phones, and of course, the HTML email is a great thing to NOT pay out the butt for.

I say upgrade know if you know how to do it. Especially if there is an upgrade from your carrier.
