Invalid IMEI with Rogers in Canada

I just unlocked a Verizon wireless blackberry bold 9650 to use with my Rogers contract. I added on a data plan but every time I go to use BBM, nothing sends, as if I don't have a data plan. I've called Rogers a couple of times and whenever they ask for my IMEI number, they always say "huh, it says it's invalid" How can my IMEI number be invalid if I bought my phone straight from Verizon for an upgrade? Is maybe Rogers doing something wrong? Did my unlocking not work? It says that I am on the Rogers network for wireless, and I changed my number in my phone to my Rogers one, so why aren't things working??
