Default Firewall Problems...

Please Login to Remove!

I just wiped my 8320 and reinstalled to eliminate some default apps and cut down on memory usage. Prior to doing this, I had tried out JiveTalk to see if I wanted to use it in place of all the individual IM apps. It worked great, and when reinstalling I selected not to install the IM programs.

Now however, JiveTalk is conflicting with the Firewall. Every time I try to run it, I keep getting the whole "JiveTalk is attempting to open a connection inside and outside your firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy" message. Incidentally, this is the same error that prevents me from using Opera.

I'm not on BES, I don't have an IT policy. I've tried changing the connection settings to Allow All. I've tried resetting the Firewall settings. The only thing that works for JiveTalk is completely turning the Firewall off (although this doesn't even work for Opera). Then JiveTalk will work.

But I don't want to turn the firewall off. And I don't understand why it worked just fine a couple of hour ago.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

I had this issue when I installed Jivetalk v1.03 on my 8320. I initially just went back to v1.02 to resolve the issue, then ended up just disabling the firewall to use v1.03. Still don't know what caused the issue.

i would just go into the application permissions for jivetalk and turn all to allow to see if that helps.

That's the crazy thing with the issue I was having. I did that and was still getting the issue. I never had an IT policy on the device either.

that is strange. its got to be something on the JT side then. i cant imagine why having to reload the OS would change the firewall prompts like that

I did notice that Beejive states that with v1.03 that in some instances the firewall will need to be disabled. That is why I disabled mine. You can also revert back to the 1.02 version, which didn't give me any issues.

After reinstalling my Curve again... exactly as I did the first time, JiveTalk now works.

But now I'm having problems with MobiPocket Reader. I'm getting the exact same error, in spite of the fact that this program doesn't even access the Internet.

I'm a firm believer in security... which is why I have the Firewall enabled. But so far, I'm finding this implementation of a firewall leave a lot to be desired in terms of everyday usability.

I'm having the same problem with mobipocket. I'm on their forum as well and they are searching for an answer but with no success. I will be very interested in hearing if there is a solution. I'm also concerned to read that this problem is occuring with the curve, I was planning to upgrade to one and it was in the back of my mind that upgrading would solve my problem. Obviously, this is not the case. Damn.

Nextloop, I would be very interested in finding out if you can use your mobipocket reader when you turn off your firewall. This solution didn't work on other units but I wonder if it would work for the curve.
