Default Updated OS and sideloading

Please Login to Remove!

Quick question. I've got a few sideloaded apps (ie: Kindle reader) so I've not been bothered to update to the latest OS. I'm assuming that updating not only eliminates my ability to sideload in the future but I will also lose any apps I've loaded to date as well?

Thanks!

Actually I may be way behind in things; did RIM actually go through with disabling sideloading on the original 2.1 release or not? I'm not suggesting that this latest update disables it, I haven't updated since Alec announced it was being disabled back in April.

I just checked this with the current 2.1.0.1032 Release: Sideloading still works as before.

Thanks for checking. I just updated and all of my previously sideloaded apps are still there (and working) as well.

Sideloading ability was removed for paid apps, open source free apps can still be sideloaded from what I've read elsewhere.

Currently using the latest OS and no sideloading issues ..... nor were any previously installed apps affected. I tend to doubt RIM will somehow make previously installed apps stop working, but there could be some compatibility issues that may arise.

I will look into the possibility of paid apps not sideloading and let you know if I run into any issues.
