I'm receiving my storm this afternoon. I use tmobile and need it unlocked. Would any of you be willing to call and get me the unlock code?

VZW does not have unlock codes. I spoke to a VZW tech who specializes in BB products with the same question wanting to unlock mine even though I am a current VZW customer and have been with VZW for many years and was told that VZW does not have them and therefore has no way to give them out. The tech was quite puzzled about what the "unlock code" even was, thinking I was trying to unlock the phone. It was only after I explained what I was talking about and a check with her supervisor that they realized it is something they do not possess.

Funny, I spoke with Verizon global support, said I was traveling to Australia next month and they gave me step by step directions and the code.

Sorry, OP, I can't help get the code, but you can purchase one, I'm sure

Maybe you should try again, because I know for a fact they can do it. Some reps are absolutely clueless and will swear up and down it can't be done. Sometimes it takes a couple attempts before getting the right rep.

I have seen codes for sale on Ebay, but I have no idea if they are legitimate or not.

Lock codes are available and there is no need to pay. Both my wife and I have them and just called and got the unlock codes and directions. Sometimes you will reach a lazy or unknowledegable person. Just hang up and try again.

As you are not a Verizon customer, your best bet is to get an unlock code from Horizon Wireless. A link with a coupon is in my signature.

I agree! ... As Verizon will not help you if you are not a current subscriber.

Imagine that, a company not willing to freely help someone unlock a phone to use on another carrier.

This reminds me of two morons who came in once last year, they had won two phones on Ebay and wanted our techs to help them unlock them for use on Cricket..............and got pissed off when they wouldn't help them.

Crackberry.com there you will find a thread with step by step instructions. I can't tell you if they actually work or not but it says it's free. Good luck.

What has to happen is that the phone needs to be activated on the Verizon network. That means activated on their network on someones account. When I bought the phone, my buddy had it activated on his account then reactivated his curve. Then when we called Verizon Global support he told them he was going to be travelling to europe and was going to be using a sim card from there. The rep noticed the phone had been activated previously and was able to give us the unlock code. If it wasnt activated she would've had to activate it on my buddies account. So if you know someone who is a Verizon customer and willing to spare some time I'm sure you can get it unlocked (it may also help that they have a BB with a data plan already as well since its a requirement to buy the phone and this may throw a flag)

Y'all need to be aware that "unlock code" is a concept that doesn't apply to CDMA (Verizon's cell technology). It applies to GSM.

It applies to the Storm because the Storm has a GSM SIM card in it, so that it can be used in Europe and Asia. Before, the Storm, the only Verizon Blackberry that had a SIM was the 8830 (World Edition).

So, since most Verizon phones don't have a SIM, and therefore don't have the concept of an unlock code, you shouldn't be surprised when you talk to a Verizon rep and they don't know what an unlock code is.
