My 16 yr old niece was just paralysed due to an injury vacationing at Kipu Falls in Hawaii. We are claiming a Miracle for her recovery (prayers are needed!).

I'm going to treat her to a device that she can use to text her friends and surf the web. I have no clue! I use just a plain old cell phone. We have Verizon and will add her to our account. Which BB should we get OR is a different device better for a 16 yr old's needs?

Sorry to hear about your niece's unfortunate accident. I would recommend the 8300 version from Verizon since it has a qwerty board (just like a keyboard) for texting and email, plus all the great features.

If she's looking to text and surf the web, I really don't think the BB is right for her. Go with the iphone, I know its not Verizon, but the browser is the best, hands down, plus it has a great video player, and its an ipod. BB is really best for email and the business mindset and has a crappy browser. Neither or which she needs right now.

Will the iphone be compatable with Verizon?

No, it's only with AT&T.

So check coverage in her area, first.
