Default dirty Trackball - very annoying

Please Login to Remove!

Is this normal ?
one week ago, for whatever reason, my trackball stopped to scroll down.
I thought, well, after 6 Month of usage, this might be possible.
Then, I replaced the trackball by extracting one from my old 8800.
Now, today morning, my fingers were contaminated with a very small amount of grinded coffee.
Again, the trackball is defunct.

I have ordered 3 replacement trackballs, but, it will take 2 weeks for delivery.

In the meantime I will have to live with the problem.

Is there any procedure to clean the trackball without dissecting the 9000 ?

Yes, from now on I will carry a can of compressed air with me in a special holster, and clean my hands with it before I touch the device.

There are a few threads on this if you search.

It seems if you keep your BB in your pocket, I do, you're more likely to have it pick up pocket lint and dust. Once a week I take some rubbing alcohol and wipe down the phone, especially the trackball. It rarely gives me problems.

Keeping it in a holster or a sleeve when you aren't using it helps keep the trackball a little cleaner as well.

I follow the regimen of:

1) Turn my Bold off.

2) Take an alcohol prep pad (I'm diabetic and have to inject Insulin) and just roll the prep pad over the trackball, which is still in my Bold, for about 45 to 60 seconds.

3) Let it dry out for about a minute and then

4) Switch my Bold back on and enjoy it

I do this every second or third week and have had no problems with a sticking trackball.

Good luck!

Wirelessly posted (Bold 9000)

I managed to get blue ink on my trackball. Not a problem though, works fine and its now a white/blue marbel color.

Until you fix it, in a message use the space key to scroll down.

Me too - do you use the "juicy" BD ones or the drier store brand ones? I use BD...
