Cool Lock BB, Give up CallID?

Please Login to Remove!

I tried to search on this and nothing came up but I am sure someone will send me a thread ;) I have been reluctant to locking my BB but use it for work and feel I would be safer if I locked it. The thing is, it is also my primary phone and I would hate to give up the callerID function if that is what happens. I have read some people say this is the case and others say it still works, but I thought I would ask for tohers that lock the phone and whether they still see who is calling when it rings prior to unlocking it.

Thanks in advance as always.

Once the device is locked you will lose caller ID. This is by design. Think of it this way... If someone steals your BlackBerry, do you really want them to know who is calling you and what their phone number is?

You should stil be able to see the phone number of the caller. However, it won't match the name in your address book while locked. This--as mentioned above--is a security feature. Similar functionality to Nokia phones when locked.

If the network also sends the caller's name (some carriers are now offering this), then the phone number only is still displayed on a locked device.

The information is retained--so you can view who called once the device is unlocked.

If the Blackberry is just locked, called ID still works. Howeverm if you enable security, then you do not see the name of the sender. I lock my device and am able to see who is calling, while not have any third person look at all my contacts and emails etc.

Well I have BES and my company requires me to enable security. Actually security is enabled after 20 minutes of Standby, where it locks the phone. Even when the phone is locked with security enabled, I get my full caller ID. I know this because my girlfriend has an habit of calling me in the middle of the night, when my phone is locked. When thing that I should mention is that my "content protection" is disabled which could be the reason you get no caller id if you have this enabled on your phone.

It depends on whether content protection is enabled or not. If it is, no cid, if it isn't, cid.

To the OP, just lock your device then call it. Question answered.

That is correct, if content protection is not enabled and the Blackberry is locked, you still get caller ID. If you use content protection, you do not see the number calling.
