That's a patent that RIM filed in February 2008. Before the Storm came out, there was speculation that it would be the Storm and it certainly didn't look anything like that. Who knows what Storm 2 will look like.

That particular article was published a few days ago, however as mentioned above that particular schematic has been floating around for a while now.

Yeah, I've seen this one before, I'd like to think RIM wouldn't go and do something silly like punt this out as a replacement/upgrade for the Storm.

I'm thinking the Storm 2 should be thinner, and have wifi.

lol

I had a Samsung F700 a year or so ago, nice little device, but touch screen with a slide out QWERTY keyboard just made it to bulky.

RIM... heed my warning, stick to what you're good at and don't taint the new Storm 2 with any slide out tat!

I fully believe any touch screen can be bettered with slide out QWERTY
Until that is Nokia prefects their technology.
thats a few years away though unfortunately.
Until then I just prefer txting with real keys, but also like the touch screen
out of all the touch screens I like the Storm the most, but still
slide out QWERTY would be kickass

Default I don't believe it

If its going to be a slider it wouldn't be called just slider2, there would be a completely new name.

Is it just me or does the schematic resemble the PPC6800 Mogul? God I don't miss that BRICK!

It depends what you want from a device, if somebody wants a large screen, read more than they write on their mobile device and don't want one that is too thick then a device without a slide-out qwerty is better for them, it all depends on how you use your device. Personally, I don't like any touchscreen-only device because I write a lot of emails and have got so used to blackberries after using them for so many years.

I think you are a little dismissive of everyone else's touchscreens that you think they won't improve those quite drastically in a few years, you don't think that the likes of RIM, Apple and the rest won't aim to improve their touchscreens in each new generation of device they release?

As far as sliders, its a form factor they don't currently sell, but it does seem logical that they will release one at some point since their overall plan for new releases seems to be a mix of update existing models and add in a new form factor when the demand is there.
