hi

i have a bes 5.0.3mr2 server in HA mode

i installed the mr5 on the standby ha server and installation went fine
i attempted the same on the primary bes ha server but it fails with the text (within seconds)

patch for blackberry enterprise server installation has failed. check installation logs etc for more details

strange things is that the bes standby ha server also shows problems with:
[CSystemDataCon::ValidatePassword]: Failed to logon with given credentials.

also one of the entries in the logs complains about
Could not find component dependent file P:\downloads\besx503mr5\tools\jre-6u18-windows-i586.exe.
when i check the extracted mr5 installation log i cannot see the tools folder but when i check on the bes standby server i cannot see it either and that one completed okay

any ideas?

besadmin has proper bes sql rights (locally on the server) and logged in using proper password etc

The last bit of that log seems to indicate it is am issue connecting to the data base:

Normally i do a search for the words "error" and "failed" in the logs and then do a search for those errors in the forum or in BTSC.

Hopefully that will point you in the right direction.

yes i noticed that too, the SQL server is local on the same server and is working fine. I am logged in to it using the besadmin account (AD service account for bes services) and sql services are up and running. I upgraded the standby server first and that worked fine it is just hte primary server that is having an issue, servers are identical in terms of hardware and software. I have contacted BES support but they are not very helpful at present

Tell me please how you running that HA bes server?
1. Is your database repicates from primary BAS SQL server to HA BES SQL server?
2. Is your HA BES SQLserver connected to primary BES SQL server and shares the same BESMgmt databse?

ok problem solved. i failed over bes services to standby server and tried to update and received same error, i then also failed over sql mirror to the sql standby server and this time the installation worked fine. so lesson learned, when updating bes server fail over both bes and sql if you are running it locally (perhaps this is also valid if you run sql on a separate server)
