Default OS 4.2 on 8703e....?????

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone tried to load the new OS on their Verizon 8703e? I'd really like to use the new Google Maps and keep getting an error that I'm convinced is because I don't have the new OS. The old google maps (1.2) works great but I'd like to use the new one version, plus I'd really like to try the new OS. Anyone have any advice other than take the risk and just try it?

4.2.1 is not available for the 8703e nor will the 8700 version load on it.

There is no Sprint version either. 4.2 for CDMA devices has not been released yet.

Since this is a daily question, it makes me wonder...what's SO great about going from 4.1 to 4.2. Seems like a minimal tweaking upgrade, not the OS overhaul that everyone makes it sound like...

Media manager? Is that it. We don't even have a camera or miniSD slot on the 8703e!

How about the new BIS 2.3 capabilities that require OS 4.2; like vCard and iCal.

As far as I'm concerned, it makes me feel like I have a new BB, even though it is 14 months old.

Nope.

The Pearl is hardware, and 'other OS' is software. They aren't even remotely alike.

Try the Globalsat BT-359. Worked great on my 8703e.

The main reason I want it and my users want it, to be able to play our Unity voicemails from the e-mail. That is huge around here.

Probably has to do with Sprints release. They were mentioning it having GPS capability.

This may not be relevant, but a very helpful person at Blackberry support told me how to delete the "vendor.txt" file so that I could run 4.2 from AT&T USA on a Rogers 8700r.

After the software was downloaded to my desktop, I just did a search for the file and deleted it and then installed the software onto the 8700r. No problems at all.

I'm pretty sure it was a .txt. file - do a search for just 'vendor' to confirm maybe.

It's an xml file (vendor.xml). However, deleting it won't allow the install of an 8700 OS onto an 8703. The 8700's are all the same device internally. The 8703, however, is a different device (different hardware, different OS, etc).

Will OS 4.2 bring voice dialing to the 8703e?

The ONLY things I miss in my BB is voice dial and MMS support (all I want is to receive them)
