I'm getting this same error with Yahoo Go as of today. Yesterday it was working fine and today error e33. There's something blocking the connection to Yahoo. Everything else such as Opera browser works fine. Did a battery pull and nothing changed. I changed nothing in any settings at all. The only thing that happened between yesterday and today is auto off for 7 hours.

I have an 8320 with the Enabler add-on with NO data plan. Am I able to use Yahoo Go! or Google Apps without the data plan?

I'm new @ the "world of BB" Still learning...everything. Does the Maps application require the 19.99 plan to work? I'm also learning TMO loves to beat around the bush about what the device does and does not do.

Yes, anything that uses data requires a data plan.

BBMaps does require the Blackberry plan, as does email and pin messaging and browsing. There are other apps that may only require a TCP (gprs) plan.

As far as your last short sentence..."Also I can never connect to Wifi," you're going to need to elaborate as we need a lot more info to help.

Is there something like the "Blackberry Feature Enabler" for AT&T?

I live in an area where signals from cell and everything else go into some black hole. I use the wifi-uma here at home, once I leave the town I have somewhat decent signal.

Anywho, I called TMO and asked for the BB Enabler, they did it... and I found nothing to be "enabled" that was disabled. Everything that was "service is not enabled on this handset", was still, well disabled. BBMaps, yahoo, msn, aim, icq, nothing works. I've changed every setting I could find, no dice. Google apps, nope... the browser still works.

I've reset the phone several times, I've got a nice collection of service books. I deleted all the apps that gave me that stupid "pay us $20+ per month to use your own internet connection". Amazingly, the thing seems to run a little faster now that all that trashware is gone. The Dash was better at the whole data thing, I think... too bad it doesn't have UMA.

The BB Feature Enabler only gets rid of the data connection refused message and will enable the old OZ instant messenger to work (albeit not very well.) BB Messenger won't work nor will most of the other apps out there. If an app will work over wifi then you can use that. Some apps can use a TCP connection and you can buy the 5.99 webnwalk plan. However, remember that this is a BlackBerry and it's designed to be used with a BlackBerry data plan. All the BB features go through RIM in Canada. The BB data plan is basically a subscription to the RIM services. Your carrier only provides the connection to that system. That's why BB data plans cost a little more. You are basically paying your carrier for that connection and RIM for the services. Great system but you have to pay for it.

I have bb 8220. new to bb's. I do not have the data plan nor do i have much use for it. i just need to update my appointment calendar and occasionally contacts. i'm a heavy google user. shouldn't google sync work with blackberry feature enabler active. I do get uppercase UMA when connected to wifi but still cannot use google sync. or any of the apps. It even shows under mytmobile.com services that i do have the blackberry feature enabler. any suggestion? i would greatly appreciate!

*possibly* if you enter wap.voicestream.com in the apn field under options >advanced options >TCP. If that doesn't do it then you're out of luck. BB feature enabler won't do it.

Default Blackberry flip 8230

please please help!

I just spent a fortune getting a 8230. I really like the blackberry phones, but do NOT want to sign up for a data plan... to pricey. Can the 8230 be signed up with Alltel or Verizon without a data plan? Any info would be tremendously appreciated.

No it cannot. The 8320 is a GSM device, and those carriers you mentioned are CDMA. However since you bought the device you can sign up with AT&T or Tmobile (both are GSM) and you wouldn't need to get a data plan.

The fact is: when I signed up with Tmo the salesman said I did not "need" a data plan if my intent was to use the web features on a wi-fi. This has proven to be true but not without a Tmo rep calling me after getting the phone and saying the data plan was "required" for another $25.00 per month per phone! I told them they could have their phones back then. After arguing the point, they backed off and said ok. I mean I dont surf the web while I drive and everywhere I go anymore I have access to a wi-fi! So the phones always work on any wi-fi I can connect to with no problems!

I just got off the phone with T-Mobile. For some reason, they say the BB Feature Enabler isn't available? They said something about it being for someone without a contract??

I have no idea what they meant, but I'm hoping someone here can clear that up for me? Since they said it wasn't available, I signed up for the BB data plan so I can get all the nifty books that I need.

It has nothing to do with a contract. However, there is really nothing gained anymore by having the feature enabler. That was to get some of the old IM applications that used sms to work. Those apps are no longer supported anyway.

*phew*

Well, that's good to hear - I won't worry about it then. Do I still need to sign up for a data plan for a day to get the various books still? Or is that not neccessary either? I was having problems connecting to my wifi earlier, so I would up signing up for the data plan (to use for a day) but are those books still needed?

Thanks for your help and the quick respsonse

They're needed if you want email and full data.

So are you saying if I sign up for the plan, and then get rid of it after a day, I would still be able to use the BB push mail? Or would I need to keep the data plan active for that?

You can't sign up for it and get rid of it and keep the services. You habe to sign up for data and pay the monthly fee. Sorry, no free lunch.
