Hey guys, just want to know, what is the best router out there for a WiFi Device such as the 8320, 8820. Something that has good coverage with faster speed. Because I'm using a Belkin Pre-N router, data is working fine, but when I place or receive a call, the call keeps breaking up, then my Wi-Fi UMA signal will drop to one bar. Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

TMo has a Hotspot @ Home router that is made for their service. I think it's a Linksys.

my belkin router isnt working right with it either...I'm going to pick up one of the tmobile ones today on the way home from work and see if i have better luck. no problems with open wifi so i know it has to be the router

Your calls may be breaking up because there is no quality of service going on so the router is sending out the data as it comes in versus a router doing QoS which is sending out the voice data before sending out the non-voice data.

It is possible to configure QoS on a non-Tmobile router. On my Linksys (non-Tmobile router) I have an option for QoS under the Applications & Gaming section. If you get the MAC address of your handset and enter it in the Device section and assign it a priority of high, that may increase your call quality.

Well any router should work aslong the router supports the type of 802.11 format such as. A,B,G,N. Qos. Is usally supported on most or all routers. Some routers give out better signal then others and some cost more or less but all should really work with the blackberry because wifi is standerd if it does not work then u might have other issues with yourblackberry or the wifi network is not the same as yourblackberry

Data works fine, but the voice is just terrible. Very Choppy, and it keeps breaking up.

my voice drops as soon as the call connects and doesnt even handoff to GSM. it works perfectly fine though at any open wifi location, so I pretty much narrowed my issue to the router. anything else I can try before I pick a new one up?

You should try the QoS setting first and see if it helps the problem. It may also be the ISP or modem you have at home since it sounds like you're testing in other locations that work fine. If that doesn't help, then try a T-Mobile router.

Wifi will always do that. It will be choppy and cell and cordless phones. It is not just on blackberry I have the nokia 9300 9500 and the E61 and the treo 650. All do the same. When u are close to the router

If you're a DIY guy like me, I use the Linksys WRT54GL (note L model) with the 3rd party firmware DD-WRT. DD-WRT allows for bandwidth shaping (via a nice little webUI) so you could spend the time tuning your router for your UMA setup. There are a billion and one knobs to twiddle in DD-WRT, it's fantastic and daunting at the same time.

I have not seen the new T-Mobile router yet in person to tell what model is under the hood or what OS they're running on it, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some DD-WRT code on the box.

EDIT: I failed to mention that UMA worked just fine with no changes to my router, but I didn't use it extensively.

On my wireless G router calls are clear, however when I used my dads wireless N router, the calls were choppy. I wonder if it has anything to do with N routers.

Search for my username and see my problem with the AP1200. I have not yet determined if the cause is the AP or the IAS server behind it doing authentication, but its not working at this point. I'm contemplating setting up a secondary, simpler SSID on the 1200 for UMA and SIP devices.

Also, my experience with carrier supplied routers is NOT GOOD. I have the Sprint/Linksys WRT54G3G-ST router, which is intended to share a Sprint EVDO card with multiple machines. Its basically a WRT54G with a PCMCIA card and a custom firmware. A month or so after release (October 2006) many users identified an issue where uploads were severely handicaped when using the cellular card in the router (vs in a laptop). A fix has still not been released almost a year later, but we've seen a lot of finger pointing between Sprint and Linksys.

I am, however, using my 8320 with that Sprint router for UMA and its working fine. Setup was as easy as knowing the WPA-PSK key.

Well here is what I did and it's working like a champ! Calls are crystal clear and I have a steady UMA connection...

Beebopped to T-Mo today and got the T-Mo router for $50 with a $50 mail in rebate...

Kept my current Linksys router for Jr's PC, XBOX360 and Wifi for the laptop.. Hooked the T-Mo router into the older linksys described above and created a 2nd wireless network that is only used by the 8320..

Bottom line Linksys router is used for PC, XBOX360 and WiFi on Laptop.... T-Mo router is used as Wifi only for the device...

Rock solid connection, crystal clear calls, have no drop in UMA or calls as yet...

You should reverse these -- you're losing any bandwidth shaping benefit of the T-Mo router by plugging it in behind the older router. Place your T-Mo router at the perimeter/edge and make Jr's network on the old router a subnet of it. The way you have it now, any explosions by Jr. will kill your network - isolate him out in the sub-zone and your bandwidth shaping will still work when he decides to download all his porn.

picked up the tmobile linksys router today and put it in place of my belkin n router and havent had any problems with calls dropping

As much traffic as I generate on my LAN at home, everything here besides the cable modem is all CISCO. 2 1200 series G AP's, CISCO 3524 Switchs, etc.
