Default Help with Profiles!

Please Login to Remove!

Please help. I just switched to a Tour from a Bold/Curve. Settings profile was very easy with the Bold. I can't seem to do the following with the Tour:
Set Profile to "Quite" or "Silent", while allowing messages/calls/alerts from SPECIFIC contacts to make a sound/vibrate.
So when my phone was in silent mode at night or in meetings, I heard or felt alerts from key contacts which I specified in the "Exeption" section of the profiles.
I tried seraching this forum for an answer but couldnt find it.

Welcome to the Forums.
RIM changed from 'exceptions' to "Contact Alerts"
The set up is much the same as it was for an exception and it's in the same location.
Here is a copy-paste from RIM's "BlackBerry Answers" on line help on this subject:
"Assign ring tones and notifications to a contact

You can receive different notifications for incoming messages and calls from specific contacts or groups of contacts. Call and message notifications for your contacts are received even if you switch your sound profile to Silent or Vibrate Only.
1 - In the sounds application, click Set Contact Alerts.
2 - Click Add Contact Alert.
3 - Press the Menu key.
4 - Click Add Name.
5 - Click a contact.
6 - To add additional contacts, repeat steps 3 to 5.
7 - Click the application or item that you want to change.
8 - Change the notification information.
9 - Press the Menu key.
10 -Click Save."

I hope this is what you were looking for
Regards

Thanks Moose. I figured that the "Set Contact Alerts" feature should work like the Exception. So I set my exception group to ring while out of holster and vibrate when in. However, when I set my device to "Silent" profile, my blackberry does not vibrate while in the holster. It only makes sound.
It's very frustrating. Why did they change a feature that worked perfectly????

Good question Bx, I'm with you. I really want the exceptions back the way it was.

I have a need to turn them off and on, now I'm only left with deleting them and recreating them as needed

I'm with you too! I want it back too! And I have the same need too!

Can any smart people out there please help with a solution? I've seen this, but I'd rather not have to pay if I don't have to...

I agree here completely!! With "Exceptions" I was able to have a contact have a different tone for specific types of alerts.

For example. I used "Exceptions" in conjunction with a server monitor tool. When an "issue" email was sent out, it would send it as a level 1 message, and my bberry would make a specific tone. THEN, when the issue was resolved, it sent out a normal email, which in turn played a sound different than the level 1 message. I cant see how to separate these out using "Contact Alerts".

The fact that RIM has crippled this feature is a HUGE let down compared to just how awesome OS 5.0 is... I also need this type of functionality.

I'm not sure how we can escalate this issue so that it is considered for the next build.

Anyone have any ideas?

In the newest Leaked Beta, v.405 at least now SMS, MMS, etc are considered "Messages" for Contact Alerts.

I have some posts on this in this forum and crackberry.com. In a nutshell, the TOUR profiles are flawed. I had no problem using Silent or Loud, or whatever on my Pearl. On the Tour, changing one often changes them all. After extensive phone time with US Cellular, who seemed unaware of the problem when at the end of October when they launched the TOUR, the tech put me through to RIM. Although never really acknowledging the flaw, they said the work around is CUSTOM PROFILES. I have a Silent, or Vibrate profile that I made there, and those work fine. Forget the preloaded ones, make custom profiles.
