Nerfman, if you have OS 4.3, I believe if your BB is in SILENT or VIBRATE mode, you won't hear the tones.

I know it is the case with 4.5, confirm to me if they are silent on 4.3.

JSanders,

That makes sense but I was wondering in regular mode. Any ideas and I appreciate the note; I'll try it out.

On OS 4.2 and below there was NO way to silence the tones. That was changed with either the 4.3 or 4.5 OS upgrades, I don't recall which was first.

If I am understanding the OP correctly, they want to silence the key tones ....... yes?

I am still using (until tonight) 4.2.2.162 and I have my key tones silenced by going to Options > Screen/Keyboard > Key Tone (toward the bottom of screen) set it to Off

Now if you are speaking of the "StarTrek" like tune that sounds during speed dial then no it can't be silenced other than as JSanders has described.

The way I read it, it sounds as though the OP doesn't want any sounds when dialing a phone number. If that is the case then JSanders is correct. Not a way to silence it on 4.2 and below.

Yeah I wasn't really sure what they meant so I figured I'd throw it out there just in case.

See JSander's post. It can't be done under the normal profile.

Not the key tones. The OP is asking about the DTMF tones.

My experience, not sure if this answers correctly...

-If in address book or anywhere else - no tones (at least on Vibrate)
-If in the phone (i.e. where you dial from, not home screen) the noise sounds, even on Vibrate
-If you do speed dial (i.e. hold "1" for VM) it will sound if not on Vibrate (I think this is the "Star Trek"-like beep)

Hopefully the new OS fixes the noise in the phone b/c on Vibrate I'm usually entering a phone # in when I don't want noise to sound. Although to be honest, the Curve kinda makes a decent sound even if there are no beeps! Keypad is a tad clicky.
